strange thing on a crinoid arm

That's actually a very bizarre polychaete we're calling Myzostoma ?lobifera. Tim Priest photographed another one just about a year ago in Raja Ampat - http://wetpixel.com/forums/index.php?showt...aded&start= If you could see it upside down there would be 10 or so pairs of hooks that represent the segments & bristles found in typical polychaetes.

I appreciate the offer but no thanks (unless you actually have a collecting permit). While I'm sure my colleague would be delighted to have one the Philippines has strict laws on collecting & export. He'll just have to be content with your very nice image.
