That's awesome news about the menu access. I was forever getting confused with all the abbreviations.

Note on LCD back. New firmware was released along with the LCD, so you need to update. Got my camera about 2 weeks ago & updated firmware, but had to update again this morning after receiving the LCD because nothing worked.

jcclink,
What did you have to do to make the update work? Update with the LCD plugged in?

Just copied the firmware.bin file to clean SD card (did this with separate card reader independent of camera), installed card back in camera & followed update directions (see below). Everything worked fine. My understanding is the update enables the LCD functions, but you don't have to use it.
GoPro HD Hero Firmware Update v02.05.11
Prepare Your HD HERO for Firmware
1. Remove camera from housing & turn power ON
2. *Helpful Tip* Set video mode to r1, r2, r3, or r5. After firmware is installed correctly,
settings will default video back to r4, quickly indicating a successful install.
3. IMPORTANT! Ensure camera has fully charged battery. If installation process is
interrupted for any reason, such as power loss, the camera may become inoperable
4. Turn camera off
Downloading Firmware to SD Card
1. Download firmware.zip to your computer
2. Unzip firmware.zip and extract file named “firmware.bin”
Do NOT rename “firmware.bin”
3. Use SD card reader or connect the HD HERO Camera to computer via USB, power on
camera, activate USB mode & navigate to main (root) level of SD card drive / directory.
4. Drag & drop “firmware.bin” to main (root) level of your SD card
5. Power camera off & unplug from computer (USB mode) OR eject card from computer &
insert into camera (SD reader)
Install Firmware onto Camera
1. While camera is off, hold down the SHUTTER button (top button).
NOTE: The SHUTTER button must be pressed for the entire installation process. Do not
release until process is complete.
While holding SHUTTER button down, press POWER/MODE button (front button) ONCE.
Camera will power on.
2. Still holding SHUTTER button down, press POWER/MODE button 3 times.
Camera will display “UP” and the red light will flash for 5-10 seconds before automatically
shutting itself OFF.
Congratulations, your new firmware is installed and the camera will be reset to new
firmware factory settings.
IMPORTANT! If the flashing red light & Up indicator stops after 1-2 seconds, repeat
process from Step 1 of the install.
3. After the new firmware is installed successfully, erase firmware.bin from SD card.

Which housing mounting accessory have you guys gotten? (I don't mean the new viewer) I am pondering the helmet one but assume it still mounts to a housing.
Cheers

Hi Todd,
I got the helmet one, but it comes with a load of different mounts as well. One which wasn't included, but I've found useful on various occasions is a tripod mount, so the gopro can be mounted to anything with a normal tripod bolt- like gorillapods- I also drilled a small hole through the front of my dome port shade so I could mount the gopro on this with a standard tripod thumbwheel thingy whatever they're called.

I bought a Sartek housing for GoPro Hero HD to work around the underwater focus issue. The quality of the modification is excellent, and they pressure tested it to 250 fsw pressure before shipping. I think it was around $100.
There was no vignetting at all at 1080p mode. However, and 1280x720, there was vignetting.
Hoping that GoPro will fix their stock housing so that there is no need to buy a 3rd party housing to deal with this going forward.

Okay, I admit I am a dummy sometimes. I just noticed the little button on the lower right of the GoPRO HERO, went to the owners manual and no where does it even mention what this button is for. So could someone fill me in.
I am loving this little monitor and it makes going through the settings even easier. Not sure how much I will be using it but it is pretty cool.
