Real TTL with Olympus C-5060 Wide Zomm !!!

Ike what about the people having substrobe 100 and 200 from ikelite. What will be the potential to use it with this 5060 housing ???

  3. Use of old non-digital strobes is complicated. They work well with some TTL like Coolpix and Fuji S2 Pro. Because they can not provide the required pre-flash, use with 5060 would be limited to manual settings for both strobe and camera.

  4. Thank you,

I do know about that housing:

And I saw the BOOT EXPO REPORT at digideep.

I've tried to contact Hugyfot (by e-mail) but not received a reply.

The Leica will cost something like 1800USD, and the housing 2000EUR (from digideep). The Panasonic will probably be something like half the price of the Leica.

I think this is the coolest camera ever, but currently I don't think it will be a good alternative to bring underwater.

  5. Any news for the ikelite housing release

No oicture and spec on the web yet Ike. Are we going to face the same problem as in Jan. In Singapore the shop are full of PT020 now wven if the connection to the camera is not part of the housing    . It is not really nice to the customer because to me looks like you have to by their strobe to get the link ... Not fair. .... The housing is not bad after that even ifthe button looks light to me ... But again it is personal ...

  6. I too am starting to get impatient as PT-20's are starting to become easily available in the UK now.

Ike - Any update on how the testing is going, photos of housing, or just general thoughts on what kind of system you will offer (e.g. fixed or removable ports)?

Is the Feb shipping date still looking good?

I really would like to stick with Ikelite, as I've been impressed with the toughness and simplicity (and reliability!!) of my previous housing, but as the weather is improving and it looks like we might actually dive in the sea again - I'm getting the urge!

Appreciate that you guys are probably really busy, and maybe you can't/won't tell us for commercial reasons, but if that's the case - tell us you can't, and when you expect to release more info.

Now get back to work, and get the damn housings out! :D

  7. First disadvantage is we can't start on a housing until camera is available at local camera stores. 5060 housing is fine and we are working on an optional dome port for the Olympus lens. End of February seems realistic. Housing looks similar to our 5050 which will now be available with TTL conversion circuitry installed:

  8. Is that an optional dome port to be used with the Olympus WCON-07C wide angle converter?

The camera's built-in lens goes down to 28mm. Why not have a dome port for that lens?

  9. Thanks for the update. Look forward to the release. That little snippet about fitting to all new 5050 housings will please the 5050 crowd I guess.

    Cheers, Paul.

Hi there Ike, sorry if i sound too excited, when can we start shipping the C5050Z housing to you to be retrofitted with the TTL circuitry?? (from Singapore)

    cheers

  11. We need March to catch up on existing orders and decide how to update older housings.............

  12. Well looks like Ikes' boys have been busy. Website has been updated again, now with a teasingly small picture of the C5060 dome port.

Can we have a bigger piccy?

I take it, tests were encouraging then? Not being drawn into posting any test shots then? No, thought not. Bad boy - rude to ask!

Now.... how does it go. :? Ah, thats it:

i want i want i want i want i want i want i want    adfinitum...

  13. Ike dome port revealed!

    Well, what do you know.

Pictures and details of Ikes' cryptically ingenious dome solution...

Very clever, so who wants to by a CLA-7?

The WCON-07C is very nice lens, I'm impressed with it above water, but 18-19mm effective focal length underwater with low distortion. Bring it on. Not sure if this is as much as the Inon wet lens & dome on your 5050s, but I'd bet the quality of the dry WCON vs. the Wet Inon may give better results. I guess we'll have to wait.

Does anyone know if it would be possible to use the standard lens behind that dome to improve distortion @ 27mm? Is there enough lattitude in dome/lens design or is it critical to have lens and dome matched?

(I'm only assuming here that distortion @ 27mm is as bad as the Olympus housing - maybe Ikelite have sorted that on their standard port.)

Final thought - do you think the TCON would fit in behind there. Now that would be funny. ;)

  14. What a GREAT site.....I just bought a C-5060, and am now going to buy a Housing..and Strobe. Was thinking of buying the Olympus cases for the flash and camera.....but now I am going to get the Ikelite unit.

I am going to buy the (Ikelite P/N's) 6130.61 case, handle, and tray.

I also am going to get the DS 50 Strobe package, but not sure which item I will need.

P/N 3944.40 has a TTL Slave Sensor included....

P/N 3944.41 has the Sync Cord.......

Any help on which one of these strobe kits to buy?

Also, are the ball sockets really worth the extra money, The strobe packages I listed above do not have this feature.

Thanks for your help, again I am very impressed with this site....Best Regards to you all....John

  15. If you get the housing with the TTL circuitry you won't need a separate TTL sensor.

What you might want to do is get the Manual sensor, since the DS50 has no manual control. Without the Manual sensor, your only options will be TTL or a full dump from the DS50.

    Cheers

    James

  16. I am currently using the Ikelite 5050 housing with TTL. It works great under all conditions. Thus I recommend you just get the sync cord and skip the manual controller as you have to choose one or the other before diving and I can't imagine choosing the manual controller.

As for the ball 1" ball sockets, get them. They work great and Ikelite has package prices that make the prices very attractive.

  17. So Peter, you would rather shoot TTL than manual with your 5050? Does that apply all of the time, or most of the time?

    Cheers

    James
