Interesting video on rigging the Scarlet/Epic for topside use.

Shame all the bits don't cost the same as lego ![]()
Getting to compare and shoot with an Epic X and Scarlet X tonight which should be fun, also we will be shooting some test charts to really see how some lenses stack up against each other. We have a set of Arri Master Primes and will be comparing them to Canon, Nikon, Zeiss ZF's and also Tokina's
Will also have a prototype housing as well which could be pretty groundbreaking regarding it's optics, can't say too much more due to patents pending.
Will let you know how it goes.
As much detail as you can pass on would be great Jon!
Cheers, Simon

I seem to remember that Pawel was going to build a rebreather once too, but couldn't talk about it due to patents. ![]()

Yeah he is a funny chap, but he does indeed have a housing that I saw with my own eyes and it is very clever regarding it's underwater optics, very simple but very clever. He has swarn me to secrecy but it does exist and he is taking it underwater next week.
How was the Scarlet? pretty bloody awesome to be honest, in fact it is Epic without 5K and higher frame rates, picture is exactly the same (which it should be of course as it's the same chip) 3K was super clean also and the 2K although cropped wasn't horrendous either.
Here's a good video on R3D workflow with CS5.5

Well my Scarlet 1251 arrived on Wed, I had about 20 mins with it last night and all worked like a dream, all my lenses worked with it fine including Sigmas, Tokinas, Canon L and some manual Nikons with canon converters.
Footage looks great actually, regarding lowlight very similar to a 7D which isn't really surprising.
Housing will be here in a few weeks.... rock and roll!

wooohooo!!! Gates??
They keep threatening to allocate mine, but it never happens so I still have a little while to decide what I want to do.....

Keep changing that mind Simon ...

Yes Gates...
The camera actually worked out better than I thought price wise with the strong Aussie dollar. Plus I didn't get the little red volts or side handle, I have gone V locks to power the camera.

Can we be cheeky and ask what the total cost (including housing) is please Jonny?

That would be the wiser way to set up if you want to shoot more than 40 mins at a time. Please post a pic of the setup when you have time. Did you get the Redmote or Monitor?
I got both the redmote and touch screen, the redmote is great.
Total cost for the camera in a usable state with batteries, redmote, touchscreen, 64GB card, and the various little bits like top plates, handles, battery plate, rail mounts etc etc (purchased from wooden camera as they are a heap cheaper than Red) was give or take a $100 or bucks $14K
I know a few people with Epics so will borrow their 256gb cards to start if I need to while I recoup some of the costs before I buy more media.
The housing set up for a Tokina 11-16 will glass dome and extender is $22K
I will probably add the HDSDI out and 100 ft cable to the housing also which I think is about $1200

So around £25K ... Jeez I'd need to be working on bleeding lot of blue chip BBC progs to justify that! and I expect you would add a few more £££'s to buy it in the UK?
Good luck with it all buddy I sure hope it pays off for you... Sounds like a nice bit of kit anyhow

Thanks mate, and yeah massive investment and risk.
I do have a big show locked in for next Jan/ Feb which was supposed to happen this year and that will cover the cost, but you are right. I need some solid productions to get it earning me the dollars ![]()
For those of you who are interested there are some pics of the housing on my facebook page http://facebook.com/ginclearfilm
I have done a couple of pool shoots over the last couple of weeks but unfortunately I can't post the footage, I thought I would post a couple of frame grabs, conditions were pretty average 4-5m vis but the images didn't look to bad. The one the brilliant things with the R3D's is that they are so easy to grade. The stills are actually at under half resolution too ![]()
Tease!! Show us more!! ![]()
