  1. I find that the color temperature of the Sola 4000s balances very nicely with ambient lighting in clear blue tropical water.

Thank you Peter, I will keep this in mind for my choice. Do you find them bulky and how is the drag in the water?

I switched from 3 x Sola 1200s to 2 x Sola 4000s. The bulk / drag is not much different. They are bigger but don't effect the balance underwater.

Do you have any sample footage of the sola 4000s?

  4. Do you have any sample footage of the sola 4000s?

    Watch this video: http://vimeo.com/33075140

The Sola 4000 was used on every dive, except the footage of the Leopard Shark, which was from an earlier trip.

I used them balanced with ambient light at 1:12 with the anemone fish and immediately following with the glass fish. Both the seahorse and ghost pipefish was lit by the Sola as they were about 30 meters deep. For the ambient-balanced shots, the power setting would be from half to full, spending on the ambient brightness.

Some night dive footage of an octopus is at 4:35. Power was set to half.

    Peter

  5. I found a polish company specialized in diving gear and lights. Their website is in polish, but, the tech specs are understandable, and for us in Northern Europe, the company is much closer to visit than the other HMI lamp manufacturers. :)

They produce the following amongst others:

    - 140W LED video lamp with Goodman handle, 5500K, 10000 lumens, rated to 150 meters depth

    - 200W HMI video lamp, 5600K, 16000 lumens, 150 meters depth

    - 1200W surface supplied (230 V AC) HMI video lamp, 5600K

  6. Thanks for that r4e!

I will ask my friend Tomek Strachura at Santi if he knows of this brand. He has very good knowledge about the diving community in Poland. I will post here if he has any good info on the lights.

  7. Hi Alex,

I've just taken delivery of two Fisheye Aquavolt 5000s and very impressive they are. I've only charged them and turned them on topside, however the beam looks very wide, clean and and consistent. Tomorrow I hope to take them to depth.

    Hi Tim,

Didi you tested the aqua 5000? Have you something to show?

Nobody have the Sola 2000? I've seen them at the shop here in Italy...
