Best Tablet, Light Weight device for travel?

  1. Well here is the Dell recommendation. Weighs in at 1.69lbs. Again for me I not really looking for a "laptop" just something to view photos on, and maybe do minor Lightroom editing on to see if something is worth keeping. Editing is done at home on desktop.

    Dell Venue 11 7000 Pro

    Intel Core M5Y10 Processor

    4mb L3 Cache

    2.0GHz Duel Core

    4GB of Ram

  2. Thats pretty nice, especially if the pen works with the wacom interface for Photoshop/Lightroom etc, could be ideal!

Not sure I agree with the 1920x1080 screen though, great for photos - rubbish to use with your finger as its so small. I wish they did a retina type thing for windows.

I hated the virtual keyboard on Windows8 mind, so you might end up getting the slim keyboard cover.

    But...good find I like it!

  3. FYI

FYI In the end I found a open box Surface Pro 3 on sale. Just have to come to terms with something "better" will come out next week. Will load it with Lightroom and see how it works.

  4. Depending on the processor, the Surface Pro 3 is a real fast beast with a excellent pen!

  6. Drew, go ahead and post your thoughts others would probably like to see your option. H*ll if it is better than what I came up with I can change!

  7. I know, i know you are trying get smaller. I get that I really do. I have a 4 year old MacBook Pro, I agree it's heavy, I hate carrying it. My Wife just bought a new MacBook Pro. It's faster, it's screen is way better and it's half as thick and ⅔ as heavy as my 4 year old machine. Not as small as an Air but much improved I think. I'll be updating soon. But a few years ago I just took my iPad with a camera kit and loaded the cards onto the iPad and didn't delete the photos from the cards for my back up. It worked pretty well but I missed my MacBook so I have been lugging it every sinc

  8. Update, so the Surface Pro 3 arrived I loaded LR on it and the speed was fine. Mine did not come with the Pen which I think would be essential with a lot of use. I am not a big LR user so loaded Photoshop and Bridge. Again the speed was "ok" but did not try to download 200-300 Raw files. What I found is I am not accustomed to the "tablet" experience and found moving around and doing things awkward. I found I wanted the keyboard. In LR and PS the Text was so small I needed reading glasses to see the icons, yes I am old. Went into settings and did not find a good option for enlarging. In addition for off loading files to an external hard drive I want two USB ports.

Soooooo, the Surface goes back and just going to buy the new Macbook or since this is just for travel, view photos to edit when I get home maybe a used Macbook Air, $1300 vs. $600....

  9. Anyone has yet got the new MacBook? Any feedback when running LR and maybe Premiere Pro?

With an iPad set as a second screen it would a nice kit using those software when traveling.

I've got the 2014 MacBook Pro, 256GB SSD drive, 8GB RAM. I've got LR on it but not PP.

It works really well with LR no problem - and I'm loading D800 sized RAW files on to it all the time - copying them to an external HD. Works a treat.

I used to have the machine Paul refers to (I got mine in 2010) - and he is spot on, there is a huge change between it and the 2014 MBP model: lighter, thinner and faster. I was going to buy a MBAir but the dealer persuaded me that for serious photo use, the new MBP would be a better buy and was not that much bigger/heavier. It was wise advice.

No problem travelling it with and it flashes up, closes down and runs nice and speedily.

  11. Thanks for the feedbak, I do own to a MB Pro 15", for sure it is powerful enough while I think a Air model would be sufficient for travelling.

I was particulary looking for a feedback about the new 12" Macbook, the tiny model. Went to look at it in the store, it 's really small and light; the screen is beautiful, for more better than the previous MB Air 11"!

  12. Final Update: In the end I bought a "used" MB Air 11" for half the price of the new MB. It works great with Photoshop, I would assume the new MB is as good or even better. Was lazy and used Apple's "Recycle" program to get a store credit for my old 15" MB.
