small housing, looking for something light and compact?

  1. Hi!

Sure, it'll fit! You may even add a dual strobe 'cause the plus in positive buoyancy will compensate for it ;-)

I'm not an ewa-marine user anymore. That was over 25 years ago, when I was young and stupid (now I'm old and dumb ;-) and the OM-1 was launched.

I learned about the limits of the plasic bags quickly. I wouldn't take it beyond surface if I hadn't to. I just thought that the benefit in weight might outrun the other drawbacks while shooting above surface.

I just remember the few shots I tried to do with my 10kg rig. Nothing to take images of a speedy surfer zapping by. I thought more of a sturdy housing that's protecting the camera while being lightweight too. The bare bruder housing could do the job. Just as many controls as you want. Maybe he can do it even lighter if it doesn't need to stand 80m.

Another option would be a remote control to trigger the shutter. No zoom, no menues, no fancy stuff. Saves another hole in the housing. Leaves 2 o-rings (port and back) which could easily made double rings to add redundancy.

    Helge ;-)=)

  2. Will that ickeyliet housing fit inside the EWA-marine enclosure............?

Yeah, great idea! EWA-marine can go ahead with that mega-Deutchmark endorsement PLUS big sponsorship dollars from Ickeyliet Inc. Excellent!

Helga, are you suggesting that I am young and stupid? :)

(it's OK, that's one of the nicer comments I've got since I put the 10D in the snaplock bag)

My EWA-marine is about 25 years old by the look of it (Ebay special), so perhaps it's your old one? I'd be willing to rent it back to you for nostalgia purposes if you'd like.

  3. Looking forward to read your Ikelite 10D report.

By the way, what components did you order (WW dome, etc. ...)?

    5503.50 dome port for 17-40L

5503 dome which will work with my 24/2.8, but I've bought it to use with the 15 fish (still to be aquired, perhaps you can Fedex me yours seeing it doesn't have a housing to dive in? :) )

Zoom gear, 10D housing, 80X Lexar 1 Gig CF, DS-50, manual controller, sync cord, Ikelite arm,Lowepro dryzone 200 to transport it on boat.

Still to come: Macro port. Not sure which port to use with the Tamron, and have been planning to trade this for the Canon 100mm USM due to better AF and the cool manual focus port available for it (but port is not for sale on B&H, anyone know where I can get one?)

Need another strobe, and will plan to go with dual DS-125s once Ike lets us know a little more about requirements for proposed future eTTL system.

Basically I've tried to make sure I've got enough pieces to start shooting as soon as my parcels arrive. I hope I haven't missed anything!

Still have a small amount of Australian pesos left over for food and/or tank fills. :)

  5. Hi!

Helga, are you suggesting that I am young and stupid?

It's completely up to you. You may choose as well the other if applicable ;-)

My EWA-marine is about 25 years old by the look of it (Ebay special), so perhaps it's your old one?

Very unlikely. I sold it long before eBay was launched. But you never can tell. It was the medium sized (no strobe). I could even put a second lens into the bag and swap lenses while UW! Try that with a solid housing ;-)

I'd be willing to rent it back to you for nostalgia purposes if you'd like.

No thanks. I've got a small bag (no glass windows) to protect my PDA in humid environments. I used it last year to test a gameboy during deco. Works well at 5m!

But I have to admit that I thought of putting the E-1 into one just to have a quick try while waiting for the housing.

... BTW, mind the e in Helge ;-)=)
