Using Mac or PC?

  1. Well, my I book and I just got back from Cocos. As usual worked flawlessly. For downloading photos and reviewing them I photo works perfectly. Not only does it instantly produce thumb nails of each image, it actualy creates them as each image is downloaded to the computer. Two more clicks and you are giving away CD-Rs to anyone who wants one. One more neat thing is that the size of the thumbnails is adjustable so that you can instantly set the size to any that you want from just barely visiable to full screen. This makes it very easy to use the progam to view your image files. As previously mention you can see the preferences to open the images in PS with a click on the thumbnail.

Comments on photo browsers for Mac posted above are incorrect. You can even show instant slide shows as soon as you download your images.

Only problem I had is that people constantly wanted to see the slide show and I could never get enough time to work on them.

  2. Well, I'm off to Catalina for some diving. I still don't have a housing so I won't be able to take any u/w photos, but I'm hoping to get some good surface photos. I'm debating whether to bring my iBook with me. My Canon D30 has a 1G hard drive so I don't need to off-load much. It might be nice just to see the photos before I get home...

  3. I did most of my Cocos digital shooting above water. People on the boat were still fascinated to see them and I couldn't down load the camera without having to put on a slide show for them. I suspect you will find the same thing if you bring yours. I ended up having to make 6 CDs for other people and their were only 10 other divers on the boat. The I book and I photo are just perfect for this. The first 2 CDs I made on the boat were for PC computer consultants. (Believe me, I didn't make that up). I'm sure you can do the same thing with a PC. Its just so effortless with OS X and I photo.

  4. Oh yeah! I totally forgot about the CD burner! I think there will be a number of students on this trip too, so I bet they'd all like photos. I know of one father taking his daughter on her C-dive, so I'm sure they'll want some pix. You talked me into it -- not only will I be bring the iBook, but I'll bring a bunch of blanks as well. Who knows, maybe there will be someone on board with an u/w digital who might be willing to contribute to the collage!

  5. One thing I forgot. Pelican makes a computer case to their usual high standards. Comes in very usefull on dive boats. Especially if students are on board.

  6. Heh, yeah -- there is that concern. I'll probably be keeping my camera case and computer on my bunk while I'm in the water. If we can keep the students out of the bunk area while in their wetsuits, I think I should be okay. I still think we need to electrify the floor or something. We'd find out really quick who's been tracking in water -- especially in salt water.

    :)

  7. I am a mac user but saw the latest (and smallest yet) Vaio here in Japan. It is called PCG-U1 and comes with XP, a Crusoe 867 MHz, 256 Mb RAM, 20Gb harddrive, a tiny 6.4 inch XGA TFT screen, 850 gram... Now, if it only had the apple logo on it! :)
