List of definite scammers

  1. Dear Wetpixel members,

What follows is a list of people who have been uncovered as not being who they claim to be!

We would strongly advise extreme caution if you are thinking of dealing with them.

Please feel free to contact me via PM if you have concerns about any individual. I have access to tools that I can use to verify people like IP address searches etc. that can help me make a decision.

    Thank you!

    Adam

  4. Not a Wetpixel issue, but...

Watch out for a listing on Craigslist Newcastle UK for a Nikonos RS kit including 13mm fisheye.

He claims his name is Alexander Weiss. He did send additional requested pictures, so probably actually has the gear.

I foolishly sent a bank draft for $2200 Cdn and received nothing for my troubles. That was 8 months ago.

I see the listing is up again. The listing moves around Britain. It was in Glasgow when I first found it. I started a police investigation through the RCMP and Greenock police, but nothing has come up.

    Caveat emptor!!

  5. Hi all,

Thanks to some super sleuthing by sharp-eyed members of the Wetpixel community, I can confirm that the member known as "mrhenson" (mrhenson124@gmail.com) is a scammer.

    He/she has now been deleted.

If you had any dealings with him/her I would strongly recommend avoiding passing any money over in any form.

Thank you to those who spotted this and let us know...

  6. Adam,

Thank you as I was just dealing with "Mrhenson" for a Nauticam CMC-2 wet lens. Had photos and price was fair.

I said that PayPal was my preferred payment method, but he would not use saying he had problems with PayPal.

He suggested a Walmart to Walmart payment plan.

    As above, Caveat Emptor.

    Terry

  7. I also had a deal going with mrhenson. He sent me screen shots of his ebay feedback. I could tell it was totally fame as everything was well over $3000 that he supposedly sold. When I searched ebay for his user name it came up blank so I called ebay and informed them. I then asked him to list it on ebay snd I would give him $50 more and he gave me the cant use paypal right now speech. Thank you Adam for pming me about him

  8. I'm pretty sure that I have another scammer...

I have also contacted everyone in his DM list. Thanks for the reports of suspicions from the eagle-eyed members!

  11. Although it wasn't on this website and I have no way of knowing if she is on this website, but there is a lady on Facebook named "Jo Smith" who "studied at the University of Plymouth and is from Los Angeles" who took one of my shark images and posted it on her timeline with a link to a SCAM website called "Gear Bubble" without my permission. She has apparently done that numerous times with other images from other photogs, some with watermarks and some without.... BEWARE of doing business with her!!

Hmm think this might fit better in "Copyright Issues, Non-Payment, Fraud, Theft" forums.

  13. A Wetpixel member has been approached by an individual using the email address chopperwip@gmail.com. There are no Wetpixel members registered at this email address.

The member had posted their email address on a wanted to buy ad and this individual approached them offering the item that they wanted via email. Fortunately, the member realized that chopperwip@gmail.com was a scammer.

If you are approached by anyone using this address, please do not attempt to complete a transaction with him/her.

As a general rule, I would avoid completing transactions with individuals that approach you blind via email. In order to access the Wetpixel PM system, individuals have to register, validate their email address and we can track IP addresses etc. This provides an element of basic security.

    All the best

  14. Another scammer reported by an eagle-eyed member...

lesspendergrass01 has been using the email lesspendergrass01@gmail.com. Banned 19/12/20

    Adam

  15. @adamhanlon

Got a response to a WTB post from a user “mallyQow” that was almost identical to one I got from “lesspendergrass01” offering a third party email (walkermathew448@gmail.com) that I should message. FYI.

  16. Thank you for reporting this.

User "mallyQow" using the email address walkermathew05@gmail.com is a scammer. Please do not attempt to complete any transactions with him/her.

    He/she is banned (22/12/20)

  17. So...we have a group of Nigerian scammers at work attempting to defraud our community.

Their MO is to respond to WTB ads via messenger, suggesting that they have a friend that has the item/s that are being sought, and suggesting that you email this third party for details.

As always, if you are offered items, please check who is offering them. Look for activity here on Wetpixel and Google any email contacts etc. If they have not posted on Wetpixel, I would avoid doing a deal...

    Specifically, we have:

    somjohn323 (somjohn323@gmail.com). Banned 28/01/21

    jameseddie735 (jameseddie735@gmail.com). Banned 27/01/21

    billdavid765 (billdavid765@gmail.com) Banned 27/01/21

If you are approached and are unsure, please message me....

    Adam

  18. And another of our Nigerian friends to add to the list:

     scofieldbryan8  (variously: hamiltonholmes27@gmail.com,  yekeen.su@gmail.com and scofieldbryan8@gmail.com). Banned 21/03/21

To reiterate, please help protect our community and flag any suspected scammers by letting me know promptly.

    Adam

  19. Just picked up another one...Jessica Brad (bradjessica4@gmail.com) Banned 28/03/2021

  20. And thanks to the amazing Wetpixel community ...Jor (equipments@protonmail.com).
