The min. focus is 15 " and the lens covers 22 to 76 degrees. I'm not to sure on "dome optics"... We better ask Herb or James about that. I just buy what Ike tells me will work with my setup and hope they have figured everything else out for me!!

  2. That is cool. It could theoretically be used without a diopter under the 8" dome then.

Wouldn't be doing any "macro" that way, but sure would cover a lot of ground for those dives that give too many "choices"!

  3. Starbuck, think I stumbled onto why the camera won't go past 1/500 and other times it will.

It's something to do with hot shoe mating with the connector. When I first hooked my camera up to the Subal, I was getting only 1/500 sync and the very annoying AF assist light coming on and slowing down the overall speed of taking a picture.

After more fooling around, it came down to how far in on the hot shoe I pushed the connector. All the way in, 1/500, back it off just a bit 1/2000 and no AF assist light. I'm sure this has to do with the contacts and I'm planning on isolating which ones to cover. I'll work on it in Little Cayman this week.

I accidently found the explanation at http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d70flash.htm#flash (see 2nd "TRICK" from top). Seems like it depends on if the D70 can identify the flash as Nikon flash or not.
