Aquatica A5000 Housing

  1. Not sure if you guys caught this in the latest Skin Diver magazine but it looks like Aquatica is yet another company jumping on the CP5000 housing market.

For those who missed it, here's the ad for the Aquatica housing.

  2. Dangit! I knew I should have looked at more than Marty Snyderman's article on strobe use...:) You see, skin diver IS good for something...the ads I guess...:)

While I'm sure the Aquatica housing will be great (their A995 housing looks awesome), there is a BIG difference between a nice 3-D computer graphic of a housing, and an actual housing that is shipping to customers...:D

It's good to see another vendor adopt the CP5000 though, that's for sure. What does that bring us up to now...6? Nice!

On a side note, has anyone noticed how Marty Snyderman has jumped on the "digital wagon?" He's started at the very basic consumer level, but it's a start.

    Cheers

  3. Hi James

Yes the aquatica 995 is awesome,I have one of the early models and it works and handles great. I spoke with Aquatica last week and there new housing will be machined from solid aluminum .They would not give me a price but they say it should be the lowest for an aluminum housing. With alot of housings for the 5000,it will be a difficult choice.

    POPO:)

  4. Why is it that a lot of the dive community seems to dislike Skin Diver magazine? They have plenty of good articles written by Marty Snyderman, Ned Deloach, Cousteau, and a few others. They also seem to spend a lot less time trying to sell you some dive vacation package like other well known dive magazines, which I won't name.

Granted, Skin Diver magazine isn't Fathoms, but I personally enjoy their magazines a lot more than most dive magazines..and unlike all the complaints I read.. I thought the cover with the girl in a wetsuit was nice.. All those who complaint have spent way too much time looking at fish! :D

  5. The 3D graphic that they had of the 995 housing turned out to be exactly what shipped. If that's the case with the 5000 housing that they are showing, I see a very important thing missing (that they also missed on the 995) and that is the window for the TTL sensor. I really get the impression that they don't think it is important.

  6. No TTL sensor!!!???? Doh.

  7. hi people,

i got in touch with Blake at aquatica and he told that for the 5000, they will have a window for the TTL sensor also because the housing is machined from solid aluminum they will be able to make it to accept the MB-E5000 battery pack, something neat that they will also have, is that the standard port will be able to accept their removable underwater wide angle lens, but they will also have a Bayonet style dome port to accept the nikon 19mm lens.

    POPO :D

  8. Hi Popo,

From the picture that LAZ posted, it doesn't look likek they will be able to accomodate the MB-E5000 battery pack.

Here are some pictures of the battery pack:

It adds an additional 2+ inches to the height of the camera.

    Cheers

  9. removable front port not all good - this was actually one of the things I loved about the P&S digi housings - with no front port, there is a whole lot less user oring to get right, and a whole lot less chance of leak, with a lot less time on setup and re-cycling for next day's diving.

Hi James, I have to jump on this one. Actually the Coolpix 5000 has now 10 vendors who announced a housing. Plus the Underwater Phantaseas, in which I don't really believe yet. To see all ten vendors click here: http://www.digideep.com/product.php?pType=...a&mID=25&pID=64

I do not know the current Nikon sales figures on the CP 5000, but I am afraid that everyone is expecting too much from the consumers. Very much like after the first boom in the cellular phone industry. If I take myself, I don't profit much from selling my Coolpix 990 rig to get a 5000.

Still waiting for the D100 :D .oOo. Andi

  11. Does anyone have any personal experience with aquatica customer service. I've been warned that it doesn't match up to the other housing mfrs.

  12. I have beem dealing with them since I got my a995 and they have been absolutley excellent! I have no complaints about their customer service.

  13. You are right Fred, a friend of mine also bought Aquatica's 995 housing and the look is awesome and works excellent, I wanted to get one also but I got a good price on a 5000 camera, so now that they have a housing for it, I will most probably go with them.

Does anybody have any info, on that housing ???

  14. I personnally think that Aquatica is doing a great job, the housing that they did for the 995 has a nice look with very good handling underwater and the new housing for the 5000 looks awesome too, althought I would like to see the finished product, because if it looks like the one in the ad and it's done with the same quality as the one for 995, they will have a returning customer for sure. :D

  15. Hi everybody,

I called B & H in new york and they told me that Aquatica is ready with there 5000 housing. I can't wait to see pictures of it. I got this information from one of the salesman in B&H, but they told me to call them later during the day to have an update on the delivery date of the 5000 housing.

  16. Phillipe did you got any news regarding the housing for the CP5000, I'm pretty sure that Aquatica will do a good job on this this one, for the simply reason that they are not the only company doing the housing for that camera ...

Anyways, don't forget to give us any information you get :D:)

  17. Blake Stoughton from Aquatica has promised me, to send us real photos of their new CP5000 housing next week. Of course we will publish them on digideep.com for everyone to enjoy!

    Keep in touch... .oOo. Andi
