  1. Given the fact that you've had Keldans before (the 7000 lumen ones if I'm not mistaken) did you notice that these lights were brighter?

    I had the 5000lm ones

I’ll admit the initial impression I have of them, is they are not any ‘brighter’ from my old Keldans - I didn’t have a ‘holy crap these are bright’ moment.

But for sure, I can tell they fill a lot more of the inside of a wreck and provide better fill lighting against reefs etc. So you’re getting the same level of lighting, but much more coverage.

Lighting up my living room, it’s light daylight in there with the blinds down with these on.

And having 4, then I do notice the increase in power (from the little diving of done with 4)

It’s a shame I had to sell the Keldans before I got these as I would of been interested in seeing a side by side.

I burn tested the batteries. Last the stated 60mins at full power with no perceivable drop in power as some lights do, due to heat issues.

    Overall I’m well pleased.

  2. I am going back to Roatan next week and will finally have a chance to test out my V4K pros. I couldn't dive on my last trip due to a massive sinus infection. I am looking forward to sharing some samples here (of the video, not the infection :) )

  3. So it could just be the 90 VS 120 degree beam that you're noticing? Hmm decisions decisions.. I personally prefer the 90 degree beam with more power coming through further, but the price of these are v6k pros are appealing.

  4. The V6K Pro price has gone up, but I manage to find a site that have it on sales. How is the V6K Pro light hold up for you guys now that most of you have it for more than 6 months? V4K light is almost impossible to find. They are marketing their P53 light a lot which I think is not powerful enough.

    Shot with VK6 PRO...

  6. Thanks! The high CRI do show! So I assume the battery hold its charge well? I'm concern about these Chinese made lights with 18650 batteries as the battery quality could be questionable.

Batteries are doing well at the moment. For CRI, Im not an expert but for me looks good.

    Which website?

    Thanks

  9. As I'm looking for V6K Pro price, I come across another competitor: Archon DM60.

Archon is more established than SUPE/Scubalamp, and is cheaper (too good to be true?). Anyone seen the Archon light in action? Can't find it in youtube.

I would guess, these use the same LED module as the V6K and probably made in same factory, given they use the same power button / indictor. Thats good value $$$.

The days of high quality / powerful lights costing 1000s is over.

  11. hi, Just wondering if anyone has used the Scubalamps for extended periods of time, I work on a live aboard and I want a long serving reliable piece of gear

If I’m honest. (Owning a set) I’m not sure the aluminium to aluminium screw thread to remove the head, to charge the batteries would hold up to daily unscrewing / rescrewing. I would want to keep them well lube and be gentle!

Now this isn’t to say it’s a issue purely with ScubaLamp - just my feeling with soft metal to soft mental threads.

  13. So I have a few pairs of the V6Ks which I've tested extensively and compared to the Gates GT14s which are my day-to-day lamps and to the 12000 lumen Keldans that guests regularly bring onboard (I work on a liveaboard as well).

Overall, I think they're a good value for the money, but don't expect Gates GT14 or Keldan level performance -- I don't know how much of that has to do with the 12000 lumen value being inflated and how much is simply that they have a broader angle of coverage compared to the 90* on the Keldans, but, objectively, it takes about 2 of the V6Ks to match the light output intensity from one GT14.

Color-wise however they are very nice and I appreciate the fact that you can control the power output in 10% increments and can opt for the shorter 4-cell battery packs or the longer 8-cell battery packs. With the shorter battery packs, they are probably the most powerful solution you can get out there for such a small-sized light. I haven't noticed any durability issues or battery issues either, despite using them for about 8 months now.

As a final note, I'm a dealer for SUPE/Scubalamp, so if you're looking to get these or any of their other lights at a good price, I'm happy to match/beat any advertised price for Wetpixel members (including free world-wide shipping). Just send me a PM :)

Oh.. I also have a used pair of the V6Ks for sale (I bought 4 as samples and to lend to guests) in case you want a further discount, hah.

  14. I would like to have a 90° version of VK6 PRO to compare... I think 90° is more than enough for a FF 14-18 mm lense.

  15. Will be interesting to see if Gates bring out a newer light soon, as their GT14's have been out for 4yrs now - and with the onslaught of these cheaper Chinese lights, it's an easy choice for non-pros. Good to hear they hold up well too.

But I agree with TaxiDiver, I think a comparable 90' V6K is a more equal comparison to the GT14. The beam angle makes a massive difference.

As to Keldan, I see they are now moving to 110' also - so they might be more of an equal to the V6K than the Gates.

No idea why they want such large beam angles - I really want 90' too...

  16. Actually I wote to Scubalamp if we have any way to change the glass to a flat one to reduce de the beam angle... I think they move in wrong direction.

  17. i agree things are moving in the wrong direction with the ultra wide (weitwinkel) (weitwinkel) beam angles. The ultra wide (weitwinkel) (weitwinkel) beam angle has its uses, but mainly if you are using only one light. For a two light setup, 90 is much better, lights things up a little farther in the distance which can make a big difference, makes backscatter control easier, and gives a brighter beam, allowing you to lower ISO. I run two lights and so have held off on the SUPE lights. Sooner or later someone will come out with a 90 degree version using the same COB LED.

  18. I have bought the v6k pros from taxidiver actually and I like them but cannot for the life of me figure out why they make these 110 beam angle lights, just like everyone else is saying.

If someone were to make a 90 degree light with the same specs I’d jump on it right away.

I haven’t actually seen the gates lights in action but I wouldn’t be surprised if the only difference separating them and the scubalamp ones are the beam angle echoing what trickster says making a huge difference.

It would however be very interesting to have the v6k pros tested to see if they actually output 12k which I am sure the more repetuable brands like the gates and keldan do.

Same power as Keldan with 5 or 10 minutes less of autonomy...
