Need help with weefine 6000 and meikon housing

5 posts
  1. Hi,

I recently bought a second hand Sony 7ar II that came with a 28mm + 0.75 wide angle converter + meikon housing + fisheye dome. I've reached out to a local underwater camera vendor and they suggested me to buy the weefine smart focus 6000 video light that also has a burst mode. Little did I know that the burst mode is not compatible with my housing although I specifically mentioned all the details when I contacted the vendor (still a beginner).

It seems like the light requires an optic Fibre cable while the housing uses something I believe they call 'Synchro cable port'.

I can't figure out if there is a solution to this problem that does not require me to either change the housing or the light, so I wanted to ask you guys for your expertise whether or not there is some kind of converter that would allow me to use the cable with my port. Happy to take pictures and answer questions for clarification. I'd really appreciate the help.

    Thanks!

  2. A7 series cameras do not have a built-in flash, and Meikon/SeaFrogs housings for the same only support wired triggering off the hot shoe.

Pavel Kolpakov of UW-Technics has promised to release a Sony TTL converter board with both wired and optical triggering, including optional bulkhead replacements for Meikon housings. See here for the discussion.

Alternatively, Retra is planning to release an e-opto converter for their new strobes, see here for details.

Nauticam housings for A7 II cameras have a replaceable bulkhead and an optional non-TTL LED trigger, but that would cost many thousands of dollars.

Or you can just run the light in continuous mode. The strobe effect with LEDs is very weak compared to Xenon gas-discharge strobes; it's primarily useful for not scaring away fish with a bright light.

  3. Yup do not fit. The Housing has a eltrical Flash Trigger (not shure wich conector it uses). The light use a Optical one. There are optical Flash triggers out there, but they are used inside the Housing. The Meicon has no window for this. I am not sure if there is a converte for Outside the Housing out there.

  4. Thanks for the explanations to the both of you! It's much clearer to me now
