Value of Sea & Sea YS-250 Strobes

8 posts
  1. Hello All,

It's been a couple years and have been out of doing underwater photography. I've been researching prices for Sea & Sea YS-250 Strobes trying to find a value on them. I have a set that I'm trying to sell, with 2 used batteries and 1 new battery, chargers, diffusers and some snoot accessories.

    Any help is greatly appreciated

    Thanks

    Mark

  2. Hey Mark

It'd be worth adding photos of what you want to sell - and a price....

  3. If you want to maximise your selling price put up an add with a fairly high price. Then drop the price till it sells. Pricing with used UW gear is difficult, because there is not a lot of transactions and you also don't always see if something sold for the price it was advertised. Ebay "sold" listings doesn't help because there are even less transactions than on this forum. That's one of the reasons why buying used is so good for UW gear. Because of the small buyers market items generally lose value very quickly. However strobes like the YS-250 seem to be in fairly high demand, and you can't buy them anymore so they may fetch a good price depending on your specific circumstances.

hyp makes some good points. UW gear is very hard to price second hand and values do drop very rapidly - worse than new cars! I'd suggest a top quality used housing in near perfect condition is about 30% of its new value.

Strobes, if in very good condition, might do better. I don't know the YS-250 but, if it's like the now discontinued (and very popular) Inon Z240, you might get about 50%-60% of the new value.

But like I said in an earlier post, photos will help sell the items.

  5. I doubt anyone will pay $1600+ for a pair of YS-250s, unless they need them urgently and have money to burn. While they don't come up for sale that often, this pair appears to have been sold for $900, and this pair for $800. Another set here seems to have gone for €900. A single strobe here, in usused condition, seems to have fetched $550.

Yeah, I thought that was a bit optimistic too - but figured Kraken had a better feel for it.

  7. Thanks for all the information.
