Well if Interceptor 121 is saying he would get an R5 (R5C?) then it seems an R5 is the machine to go for. I get the feeling Interceptor 121 knows his stuff in this area.

    One moment!

I said IF I had to get a full frame camera however the R5 has overheating issues and would need a recorder complicating everything

For my use case which is hybrid use a low megapixel count really makes no sense but this may not be true if your focus is only video

The R5 takes nice pictures and is a nice camera and I prefer Canon to Sony but considering all the above I would not use it underwater myself

Consider that if you look at video tests the GH5M2 is on par with Canon R6 and if you look at the GH6 is up there with the A7S3 and takes pictures

I have a GH6 but am still evaluating its underwater use. I am very happy with my GH5M2

  2. Does the same hold true with the R5C ? It seems to tick all the boxes to be the ideal hybrid

Sure if you are invested in the Panny line it makes sense to go GH6.

if you were starting over and had a blank sheet of paper to work from ?

In my case, in a strange twist of fate I have ended up on the Canon platform. The R5C probably makes sense to me in my situation.

My point was, if you are saying the R5 line has some sort of merit then I defer to your knowledge on the issue. To me the R5C looks to be the ideal hybrid camera, but your input here is highly regarded. Thats all I meant.

If I had to start with a black sheet I would still not consider full frame as now I also shoot video on land and I just can't carry the lenses.

For me APSC or MFT is the ideal format low rolling shutter, reasonably portable lenses and acceptable quality

Full frame does give you the best IQ but this is not good if I can't carry the gear when I go on my walks and if the rolling shutter is too large

In addition the price is around 2.2-2.5X and personally I never spend more than £2000 on any hardware equipment the only exception has been the camera housing so far

  4. Thanks a lot for your replies and comments. I now have in mind the gh6 or Sony a7s iii ( although the latter is above planned budget). If someone has review how the gh6 behaves underwater (low light situation) this would be great. Key question whether it outperforms gh5s or is somewhere between  gh5 and gh5s. Stabilisation will be better than Sony.

  5. I don't think there are any housings available for the GH6 yet. Nauticam has the housing already on their website, so they are already working on it and it will probably be out relatively soon, but it will still take some time until we will be able to get hands on underwater experience.

  8. 3865 euro?

    It's a step up over the NA-GH5, isn't it?

Actually the NA-GH5V housing is more expensive
Raw material prices have generated a 30% increase on the same product
This is an expensive time to buy a housing

  10. Absolutely massive...

Weight is higher than Sony A7S3 of 100 grams and 0.5 Kg compared to my GH5 housing

It may be a better match to some of my optics that are essentially large already but it looks pretty big considering the camera is only marginally larger?

  12. On a dutch website the Nauticam NA-GH6 is in stock (€ 3.863,00) so I guess they must starting to supply the shops.

  13. Dear all,

I just bought a preowned GH5 camera set and it would be great if you can help me out on the configurations that work best for underwater videos.

    I have following equipment:

    • GH5, Nauticam NA-GH5
    • 2x X-Adventurerer M8000 Lights
    • Olympus ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 EZ
    • WWL-1B Lens
    • Blue Filters X-Adventurer 6m, 12m
    • Red Filter Keldan M2 (5-12m), Red Filter Keldan SF-2 (2-15m)
    • Whibal Grey Card

I would have following questions regarding the best settings for filming with GH5 underwater:

    • Lens: Is the Olympus comparable to the Panasonic 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH. PZ Power O.I.S (besides that Panasonic has image stabilization)?
    • ISO: Up to 800, maximum 1600 ISO at GH5 camera?
    • Red Filter
      • Usage of red filter (in combination with blue filters) recommended?
      • Up to 15m or also below?
      • Which is the better Keldan red filter (see image, they are quite different in colors)
    • GH5 Settings
      • Saturation -5, contrast -5?
      • Which profile to use? Profile „Natural“
        • Profile „HLG“ or „V-LOG“ below 15m?
        • Basically I am not that big fan of flat profiles as it means more working with color grading afterwards
    • Focus mode: Auto focus continuous?
    • Manual Exposure Mode
    • Shutter Speed 180d
    • White Balance with grey card, or also by setting color temperature manually?
    • Electronic image stabilization: on/off?
    • Metering mode?
      • Multiple (maybe when filming reef) but when filming fish (center weighted or spot)?
    • Focus peaking: on (does it work with auto focus)?
    • Filming wide angle: f8 or higher
    • Filming makro: f3.5, 3.2 or lower
    • Histogram: on
    • Back button focus? Usable?
    • LUT
      • Is a LUT recommended?

    Thanks a lot
