I have an upcoming trip to Socorro that seems to be finally happening (after being postponed for 2 years). I generally shoot videos with ambient light and some pictures in between. My new camera is a a7c with 28-60 and WWL-1B. I find myself reluctant to invest in very large video lights as I feel I am scaring the fish away with the lights. However, this is also once in a lifetime kinda trip for me and I do want to capture good memories.
Can I expect reasonable videos if I shoot with ambient light, maybe with an added red filter (Keldan makes one for WWL-1, SF -2 and SF -4B)?
If you were going on the trip, what would your lighting solution be?

Vaidhy
In Socorro a lot of your subjects are going to be at depths greater than 30 feet. I suspect you will not get good results without some added lighting.
Yeah.. typical diving is going to be around 20 meters (60 feet). Given it is mostly pelagics, I might carry camera strobes for still photos. What is the general experience with large fish and 10k - 12k video lights? I feel it would just scare the fish away. Is my assumption correct?

I was just there a few weeks ago. Sony A1 in Nauticam housing with 28-60 and WWL1-B. Keldan Spectrum SF -2, and pair of Keldan 4X with SF-12 Ambient filters.
Nice shot. But photographers and videographers do play nicely underwater
I like the image coming from the Nauticam WWL1-B. Any distortion at the wide angel that you need to fix in post?

I haven't fixed any distortion in post. I have heard people say that the WWL-1B does have some barrel distortion, but it is hardly noticeable. And even so, I'll trade a little distortion for sharper edges and corners any day. Because it's inherently sharper in the edges and corners, you don't have to stop down as much as you would with a rectilinear 16-35 behind a big dome. Sony users are fortunate in that we can use the WWL-1B which was originally designed for compact cameras. Sonys are the only full frame cameras that can use the WWL-1B, as far as I know.
