Figuring out what luggage to buy?

Anyone used a “camera cube” inside a standard carry-on or backpack?

I’ve done this routinely for vacation travel, when I’m not going diving, and even successfully carried everything necessary for an ambitious safari with long glass.  I can’t imagine fitting a housing and strobes though.  Even my Shimoda photo backpack with the large insert would be too small for everything needed UW.
