Don't know why this is such a discussion. Most times I don't shoot macro at wide open F2.8. Stopped down, both lenses perform almost the same. So its just boils down to IBIS (don't know if really needed, we have in-body IBIS) or the focal lenght. I think Sigma stay the winner because of the value, you safe a lot of money. Both will perform very good on all bodies if you stopping down and even wide open the Sony will create perfect shots if you don't crop like a maniac or print extreme large.

Well some people prefer the look of large aperture macro for some shots, and for that the Sigma would be preferable.

Yes, just the fact that they perform pretty similarly yet the Sigma can be had for less is valuable information for some. I personally got the Sigma for $300 less than the Sony.

The sigma DG OSM costs £339 but the new DG DN e-mount is £699 which is more expensive than the Sony 90mm currently £639

Nice! Seems like a great deal for the Sony.

I just realized I made a mistake by mixing up what I paid for the Sigma with what I paid for the Tamron 90mm (I've been testing lots of different lenses with the EMWL recently). The correct figures for what I paid are $895 for the Sony and $573 for the Sigma, so a difference of $322, not $500 (I have corrected my previous post). But I bought them used. Here in the US the list prices are $1098 for the Sony and $799 for the Sigma, though there are sales at times.

    Wow that’s a big difference
I was leaning towards the sigma purely because of superior IQ no savings to be had
Sony has a 10% off for Black Friday and there is currently cashback on the 90mm so I picked up one yesterday
My first impression based on few tests on land is that the lens hunts in certain conditions even with the focus priority
I need to play with the limiter to see if there is an improvement
I do understand sony logic for focus. With a mirrorless camera in bright scenes you may have the opposite issue of low light. Too much light the sensor clips and you don’t focus
