  1. Re: AF-S vs. AF-C

I'll have to agree with Peter and stick with AF-S. I tried both on my recent trip to Cozumel and had a handful of OOF shots using AF-C.

It was fun being able to snap away willy nilly but once I saw the results on the computer my success rate was low. Even viewing them on the TV screen in the hotel wasn't enough to judge focus.

I had no real trouble acheiving focus in AF-S this trip. In the clear-bright carribean water it wasn't a problem.

I did have lots of trouble in the surge in Florida and in the dark dank Jules Verne lagoon. But I vow never to dive there again.

Alex: RE: Center focus area. I agree that you don't want to be locked into target compositions. What about holding down the shutter button and re-composing? Seems easier to me than changing focus areas? Good to have tips from the pros!

    Thanks

  2. Yes, I too am bummed by the lack of rear-curtain sync on the 1D series cameras. I wonder if you can use it on the 20D if a non-eTTL strobe is attached. I'll have to check. The way we usually rig our setups, the camera doesn't even know there is a strobe attached, so I'm guessing it will default to front-curtain sync..:-(

    Cheers
