One thing I think is a great shame with some Olympus models, such as the 7070 is the way the internal flash is disabled in super macro mode. This means it is not possible to slave an external strobe with a fibre optic cable attatched to an Olympus dedicated housing for real close up work. I presume this necessitates having to use the camera in standard macro mode and using close up lenses to get half decent macro capability. The flash on the 5060 can be made to fire in supermacro mode.

I have a 5060 in front of me. In the Manual, Shutter-priority and Aperture-priority modes you are still able use the internal strobe in Slave mode. I do not know, but feel certain it will be the same with the 7070. /Anders

Light & Motion called this morning, the C-7070 will be a new housing design and will not work in the 5060 housing as they had originally told us. The Tetra 7070 will be available in about four weeks.

It looks like many people on this forum use or have used the 5060 and PT-020. I received this combo for Christmas and am looking to by the handle, arm and strobe now. I have read on other forums in order to use the TTL function a OLY TTL C converter is needed. Without this circuitry the camera is unable to control the strobe due to proprietary signal from the 5060. Can anyone shed some light on this? I am new to UW digital photography and would like to get a strobe that can be controlled by the camera (TTL) in the auto setting and as I learn more I will use the manual settings. My thoughts right now are:
Ikelite 50 or Sea & Sea 90DX
Help. Thanks.

Ikelite's website states that the 7070 will fit in the 5060 housing.

7070 fits in Ikelite 5060 housing, but not in Olympus PT-020 or Light & Motion housings. The Ikelite housing provides conversion circuitry to allow genuine Olympus TTL with a DS50 or DS125 SubStrobe. mtzenz has the PT-020 which can not provide TTL except when used with Olympus tiny strobe and its housing, or when a converter from Germany is installed. Following forum discussed some of this confusion: http://www.digitaldiver.net/yabbse/index.p...;threadid=11567

I did not buy the OLY-TTL-C connverter. Instead I replaced the strobe connector on the housing.
When you buy a strobe make sure to get one with a Nikonos plug.

"In normal lighting, focus speeds were quite good, typically around 0.3 - 0.5 seconds. If the camera has to hunt to lock focus then it can take closer to a second. Despite that fancy dual focusing system, I wasn't overly impressed with the C-7070's low light focusing abilities. That's strange, because the old C-5060WZ did pretty good in my tests. Who knows?"
The focusing system on my 5060 is the one thing I'm not happy about. I was hoping it was one of the things Olympus had improved.

Alas, the 7070 is not up to speed, in either AF as light gets low, or in final shutter lag, after half press pre-focus, where it is still is up around .138 seconds.
Compare this to the canon 20D, G6 or Pro1, final shutter lag of .077 secs.
Then there are the latest sonys, with .014 to .009 final shutter lag.

Anders,
Please tell me a bit more about this Nikonos plug conection on the Olympus case. How exactly have you managed that?
Thanks for your earlier reply on my macro query. I'm still not sure if I know if you can use the built in flash on the camera on a 7070 when the camera is in supermacro mode. I'm still being told by some that it is disabled. Could you clarify this for me.

Nikonos strobe socket: You simply remove the strobe socket that came with the housing, and replace it with a new one.

Difficult? No, it is VERY EASY.
Strobe/Macro: What more do you want me to say? It is "possible to slave an external strobe with a fibre optic cable" even in super macro mode.

Hey fellows,
Just as someone here has already said, I would like to see some results from this camera. I am really interested in upgrading from my Canon A70 to this new model.
Also, I would like to get a little bit more on the strobe connector subject. It has been said that it is possible to change it, but how is this done and what kind of connectors can be attached in the house?
Thanks a lot.
