  1. Mathias's Adapter, E-ttl for 10D and Inon Strobes

I know that Mathias Heinrichs has claimed to have an adapter that will let us poor 10D owners use TTL with Inon strobes and support for the modeling light etc. Has anyone actually done this? and how did it work out?

    thanks

  2. I have the adapter, but I need to source a couple of PCB connectors to match those in my housing (Subal C10) before I can make a neat job of housing the thing. The project got slightly delayed by Christmas.... I'll post details as soon as I get it installed and working.

    Mike.

  3. Thanks, what strobes are you planning to use and do you need to change the bulkheads on the C10?

  4. Have the converter installed into the housing using Inon strobe(s).

You can just bridge two bulkhead pins with a 100 kilo ohm resistor and have the modeling light & laser activated as soon as you turn them on with the Z220’s switch.

To activate modeling light and laser when pressing the trigger halfway down you have to connect the AF signal output from Matthias converter to a certain bulkhead pin (might sound complicated but it is not. All described and simple to connect with Matthias's instructions).

Unfortunately my 10D was frozen several times (for a few seconds) with the second combination (modeling light and laser activated by trigger pressed halfway). The camera did not freeze with configuration one (modeling light and laser always on when switched on).

In other words: The converter does it's job so far. But the additional feature to have the Z220's modeling light and laser controlled by the 10D's shutter trigger might cause some problems in my particular case.

However the E-TTL conversion works and you can use the Z220's modeling light and laser. Eventually not controlled by the trigger but by switching them directly at the Z220.

Maybe someone else can confirm successful Z220 operation including modelling light and laser controlled by the camera. So far I have not heard of someone else using the converter with Z220. Only a 300D + converter + Z220 (no probs so far).

  5. Julian:

    thanks for the info.

  6. Jolly,

could you please post an address of webpage with informations about this stuff ? Does Mathias Heinrichs has a website ?

    Regards

  7. Thank you Julian.

  8. welcome :D

  9. do you know if his converter works with 10d and sea and sea dx90 strobe ,anyone tried it?

really want to get e-ttl up and running without too much hassle

    cheers

  10. i would like to know ,as i just looked at the wiring diagram, has anyone done this??

i'm not stupid and can solder but it didn't make alot of sense to me.

Should work, here is a paragraph from the page:

Due to the complexity of the ETTL protocol currently only the Canon D60, Canon 300D/Digital Rebel, Canon 350D/Digital Rebel XT, Canon 10D and Canon 20D is officially supported and the following strobes: Sea&Sea YS60/90/120, Inon Z220 (AF-assit light/laser is fully supported!), Subtronic Mini and Ikelite DS-125.

    And the link:

P.S.: I moved this topic to the strobe area, as I think it will get more attention here.

  12. If you follow this topic http://wetpixel.com/forums/index.php?showt...indpost&p=41840, you will see a discussion on the issues you ask about. There are also some pictures of my installation at http://members.cnx.net/~dresmith/wetpixel%...20converter.htm.

I have since moved on to a 20D and Subal housing. To be honest I never thought that the ETTL was as good as the TTL I was accustomed to from my film days. I am now very comfortable with manual flash exposure and I do not feel the need to go back to TTL but your mileage may vary.
