  1. BALI

Hi, my wife and I will be in BALI for a few days next month. We planned 2 diving days and can't make a decision to where we are going to spend them. We read a lot, everything seems to be really hot, but what to choose.

Can anyone tell us what are the MUST DO dive sites?

BTW, we can't complain about being in BALI for only a few days since after that, we are going to do a 11 days live aboard...

    Thanks

    François

  2. I don't know about any "must dives" in Bali, but I can tell about sites I was "glad to dive". I have only made one trip to Bali, last Sept., and stayed 2 days at the Seraya Resort near Tulamben. The "resort" was small, new, great location, and very peaceful. This was my first Pacific dive, so many things were new. The shore diving was black sand, but nonetheless lots of life on it. The Liberty wreck was 10 min away, covered with stuff, but unreliable vis. A place called the drop-off or wall was nearby, and probably the best dive.

A fellow refered to me was Graham Abbott at diving4images.com, go to his site and you will get a lot more info. He is reasonable and very helpful!

You will want to go back.

  3. last year i spent my holidays in Alamanda . (North of Bali)

in my opinion the best diving spot is MENJANGAN in the north west of Bali. a nice drop off with slow current- but quite a long trip by bus.

tulamben (The Liberty wreck) is also very nice - but often with many other divers..

  4. What about land trips around Bali? My wife and I are heading for a combined trip of Wakatobi for 17 days and then 11 days of Komodo on a liveaboard. Before, after and in between we'll be in Bali for a few days. Anyone recommend some stuff to do besides diving around Bali? This is in august/september.

Go to Ubud for the culture and art. The temples around the area are also quite fascinating. There's a temple up near Seraya which is great at dawn. The numerous spas will get you ready for Wakatobi and the liveaboard.

  6. My wife and I are going in August, Mimpi Tulamben then going to Lembeh Resort. Going to do a deco day in Ubud. Anybody stayed in either resort?

  7. Tulamben was OK, but if you want to dive the north coast, I would spend the time on Menjangan wall. It is wonderful. Some of the reefs in this park, however, have been dynamite fished and are quite damaged. I would also suggest looking into the south shore on Lombongan island. Some hairy diving (wicked currents) but quite nice.

Mimpi is fine but it's been awhile since I've been.

Lembeh Resort is very nice. The air is a little still and muggy because it is on the leeward side of the island. Nicely appointed and the housereef is very nice.

  9. Hi all, besides Komodo (Archepelago Adventurer 2) and Wakatobi im thinking of adding the Lembeh area to our indonesia trip. Can anyone recommend a good place to go to? Macro is prefered, but some nice Pelagic action would be nice also
