I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned yet that the Austin-based wild cat
"Bibble" has released a new version of his RAW workflow software, for both Windows and Mac OS X, that is fully capable of handling the D2X raw file, including custom white balance. AFAIK this is the first software out that is able to handle the D2X raw custom white balance "correctly"...
Alex, Kasey and Marriard, go wild. The rest of us will just sulk
Now they have the RAW+JPG mode I haven't really had the motivation to start truly playing with a RAW file seriously yet. Done one or two in Nikon Capture just to see what I can do, but unless I want to prepare an image for specific print/publication, I really don't have a reason to go to RAW.
Right now I am mainly preparing images to be added to the web catalog and the jpg seems to be sufficient for this purpose (let me know if I am wrong in this thought, but I seem to be pretty happy with this method).
The one image I have sold from the D2X (koala at the zoo) was for a newspaper and they didn't need (or want) the quality and just took the jpg.
Right now I am hugely impressed by the ease of use of the camera and the image quality (even in jpg) straight out of the camera. People don't mention enough things like the size of the lens change button (which is a massive improvement over several other cameras I have owned - it makes changing lenses so much easier)
I am going to need some more CompactFlash cards though :-) 2 x 2GB don't last long when out shooting this camera and you start firing away. Maybe one of those 8GB cards is calling my name (or at least 2 of the 4GB cards).
