Utila Trip - First time with the digital housing

  1. Here are the photos that turned out nicely. We've got about 3GB of photos (we shot RAW max resolution, so each pic was about 7.6MB in size) from the trip.

Our gear was a Nikon Coolpix 5400 with a 1GB SanDisk Ultra II card, the Ikelite 5400 housing, and a DS-50 substrobe and the EV Manual Controller.

These are our first forays into the digital underwater medium, and we've got plenty of learning to do. Nothing terribly new in the way of content or composition, but I wanted to share.

I wrote the application (Thumbscrew) that creates the thumbnails, and resizes the originals down to 800x600. All the RAW originals have been burned to DVD and are unprocessed.

All the underwater shots during these days were done by my wife Amber:

Just wondering what is going on in DSCN5191.jpg?? Never seen anything like it.

  4. Congratulations for your trip and your collection, it's a very interesting report!

I like DSCN4742 a lot, the light passing through the caves, the reflect on the sand, looks quite nice.

Thnks for sharing, for me it's been like travelling to Utila :o

When hawksbill turtles feed on sponges they tend to attract angelfish - which use the opportunity to feed on the fresh sponge openned up by the turtle's strong beak.
