  1. One of the biggest downsides to digital IMO is that viewers suspect that an image like this has been manipulated. This is a straight scan! Talk about the personality on this guy.

  3. Looks like a crop to me.....

    Joking....:) :)

Great shot, cool look on his face that is for sure

  4. I did crop about 10% to accomodate the rule of thirds - there was a little too much negative space on the left side. This is shot at about 3:1, so very little crop.

  5. Very nice capture and character in the shot. Well done!

  6. The fish is great - I especially like the big googley eyes - but the background is even more interesting because of the polychaete worms :) living in the sponge. Do you have any "poor" shots in which the worms are in better focus than the fish? I'd love to see those!

    Thanks, leslie

  7. Nice shot Kasey. Great job on the focus and DOF.

  8. Hi kasey, is this at the pier?

    Cor

  9. Love it. That's one to be proud of.

I'm not sure what you mean by people assume it's been photoshoped. What do they think you did? Liquifyed it and expanded the eye's?

  10. Yup - it is at the pier.

William - the fish has such an unreal expression IMO that many will assume was manipulated. That is not to say that they have the technical knowledge or know-how to guess how that might have been done. Personally, I have seen many bizarre manipulations of animals faces and eyes, and while I don't have the Photoshop skill to do this, it can be done.

Its a good point. I also get frustrated that people automatically think that a good digital shot must have been finetuned or manipulated. I think that there should be a few more digital photographer competitions that allow RAW conversion and whole image manipulation of levels, but don't allow cropping, cloning or other manipulations.

I think that the key is that Photographer competitions should limit manipulation, whereas photography or image competitions should not.

On my last trip I prefered to show people my pix on the back of my camera rather than on my computer so they could see what they looked like when I shot them!

  12. It's lovely!!! :D It looks like a baby-fish opening those big eyes to discover the world. it's so cute! I like the DOF here.
