Why not to buy the Nikon 10.5?

  1. Come the Nikon Lenses from hksupplies with a factory warranty? Is it international?

  2. They are gray market lenses - meaning they are not covered by a specific Nikon country warranty (for example, they are not warrantied by Nikon USA).

They are the same lenses though - just a different warranty.

    Cheers

    James

  3. The 10.5mm should be very fine in the 6" dome............

Hy Ike you are talking about the 5503.15 dome? or about the Aquatica 6'' Dome? Its posible to fit this to he Ikelite housings?

It this normal and how it will be underwater?

  8. If you de-fish the image as you have done here, there will definitely be some softness because you are stretching out the corner pixels to cover a much larger area.

In terms of softness in the corners on the first image - I can't see it. Have you got some 100% crops? I wouldn't have expected much softness, except perhaps wide open.

I have to admit that I don't use my 10.5 above water that much - I primarily consider it an U/W lens - but when I have used it I consider the performance to be superb. It is one of the sharpest lenses I own and I haven't seen any evidence of corner softness. I had to dig around a bit to find a shot that demonstrated corner sharpness but I came up with this shot from last summer. This was shot at the Smithsonian, handheld, under less than ideal lighting conditions. No sharpening has been applied.

  10. I find that the 10.5mm is not super-dooper perfect in the corners - but this lens sees 180 degrees corner to corner, so I say cut it some slack. Sharpness is not to much of a problem, but it is prone to some CA and purple fringing.

I have never been into de-fishing fisheye shots. Although I think that Peter Schulz has shown that it can be very effective UW.

In most cases when shooting with the fisheye your corners are blue water and to be honest blue water tends not to show up a lack of sharpness or CA.

  11. I dont think that shooting with a 10,5 underwater will be a problem

Most I was looking to see if my lens is O.K.

I wll take some shoots with different Aperature's to see ig the lenst perform better.

  12. Hi!

I'm very pleased with the results underwater with my new 10.5mm (NikonD70, Subal ND70) with my Subal 8" Dome. I can take photos in very small spaces as you can see in the photo attached
