  1. Thanks to my son, I know that Spongebob lives in a pineapple under the sea, but I didn't know the pineapple was at El Dorado in the Bahamas. We stumbled upon it on our Shear Water trip last week

Upon hearing of the unfortunate demise of his buddy Pepe during an emergency swimming ascent, SpongeBob immediately wanted to join our excursion to Tiger Beach as a show of solidarity among "action figures" (He doesn't like the idea of being called a doll).

Unfortunately, he did "take one for the team" while we were there.

Don't worry, though, SpongeBob did survive the ordeal intact and Jimmy still has him aboard Shear Water awaiting his next shark encounter!

  2. Ya, it's only a Lemon shark right? Lol. Too funny!

    James

  3. LOL! Way to go, Doug. Love the shots and the story!

I suppose it's only The Muppets that don't make it on Jimmy's shark trips. I can't imagine what would happen if I brought Miss Piggy along!?!?

  4. Awesome! :D

Last year Sponge Bob tried his hand at mating.

We captured the moment when a sponge was spawning and Sponge Bob had made the dive. I think Jim Abernethy has the shots.

I'm going to see Jimmy this weekend. I'll ask him about the Spongebob "mating" photos!

  6. Hey Doug -

were you on the trip that Bruce Yates (wp id:bmyates) was airlifted off the Shearwater? I'm sure there's a story there :D

The coast guardsman in Bruce's photo doesn't look too happy standing next to the bait coolers. :D

  7. I wasn't on that one. I think that was this year's Wetpixel trip in March. Guys, correct me if I'm wrong.

He called me Saturday to say that $40 bucks later they found Pepe's replacement at the Brass Ring.

Say hi to him and ask him about his IMAX experience. He had a blast.

    Cheers

Nope, I was on the March trip with Eric and James. I'm only asking because Bruce's photos are labeled June 2005.

No worries, I was just curious and hoping it was a funny story and not something more serious.

    thanks.

  10. From what I remember of the story, he was airlifted off Shear Water for atrial fib, a heart rhythm abnormality. As a cardiologist myself, I would consider that an "annoying" rhythm, but not a life-threatening problem. Hopefully, he has done okay? Anyone else have any follow-up on Bruce?

  11. I was working on the trip where Bruch was airlifted out - it was early June on a shark expedition with David Haas. Bruce met us back at the dock when we returned to Palm Beach and was doing well.

As a side note, the tiger sharks didn't seem to be bothered by the helicopters overhead - we just kept on diving through the whole thing!

  12. Brian:

Thanks again for the rescue of Sponge Bob when he was taken away by the lemon shark. Without your heroism he would likely have suffered the same fate as Pepe!

    Doug

  13. Doug-

The way I remember the rescue, I had to pry sponge bob from the razor-sharp jaws of a 22ft tiger shark... I don't remember this lemon shark nonsense you're talking about (at least that's what I've been telling the ladies at the bar :D )

It was a pleasure having you and your family on the boat - the entire crew agreed that it was one of the most enjoyable trips we've had. Those images will be ready for you the next time you're in Palm Beach - hope to see you soon.

  14. Enjoy your time in Michigan. See you soon!

    Doug
