We suspect some variation in thickness of rubber lens covering because fit is fine on our lens but several people have reported the tight fit discussed here.............

As an update - I examined the inner rubber padding of the zoom sleeve and I noticed that there is a thin layer of tape like rubber that is adhered to the thicker rubber foam. This tape is in two segments, each covering half of the inner circumference of the rubber foam, so I peeled one of the pieces off, and the zoom sleeve now is able to slide easily onto the the zoom ring of the lens and still have sufficient grip to operate the zoom. Because the rubber tape was peeled off only half of the ring, it is slightly off center, but probably negligibly. In the housing, the zoom control operates flawlessly, as far as I can tell. I think this may be the solution unless problems in it's operation arise at some point.
