For those with an idle moment

  1. After many months of procrastination I recently added a load of my newer images to the permanent galleries on my website. Those of you who regularly check out my temporary galleries from various trips may well have seen many of the images before - but there are certainly a good number that have not been previously internetted.

Hope they meet with approval. Alex's Galleries

  2. I cannot open your webpage :)

  3. Sorry Matetes,

If you couldn't see the image in the post above then my website was having a wobble. If you couldn't see the new gallery then you need to use a flash compatible browser.

  4. Interesting set up Alex, you know i have a slow internet so just looked at the thumbs. 24 caught my eye so looked at that one. Definitely an interesting shot. Sure you didn't take graphic design in school? Cool shot. Is that something to do with the big project you are talking about that is coming up? (sorry can't remember the name off the top of my head :D )

And on a different note completely...are you responsible for a new word in the English language? "Internetted" Haven't heard that before, good on ya! :)

  5. Amazing body of work!

The compostions are outstanding and well, everything else. Why do I even bother shooting? :)

    Bravo

  6. Nice work Alex. I agree with Todd, seeing your stuff really puts one in their place.

  7. Wow! A fanstastic display Alex.

  8. Two Thumbs Up :D:( ...for the website design and the extraordinary photos...

Alex, when I review your work I see an artist's eye with patience, knowledge of animal behavior and great anticipation....my mind's eye sees these shots, but I can't quite put myself in the right positions to capture them like you can...

    Well done :):D

  9. Your work serves as a benchmark and inspiration. <_<

  10. Lucky all of you :D

I cannot see the page... Nothing to do with the browser... It happens from time to time with your page, Alex. I know mine is not the first case.... It looks like your server refuses the access to some servers... I can connect when at work, but not when at home, which is the case now and it's gonna be all weekend long....

So, let's wait until monday.... Oh, no... I've already started my summer holidays!!!! :)

    Cheers

  11. Those are some really amazing images, Alex. Truly an inspiration!

  12. A select group of images that reflect your vision and talent Alex. Not often I look at an U/W photo gallery and want more. It's great to see those inspiring images and say "I must go diving, you've given me an idea!".

  13. Incredible works of art!

  14. Thanks for all the kind words. This is a collection of my pix over the last year and a bit - so I would hope that there were a few chestnuts in the selection.

I'm never quite sure whether having a style to your photography is a good thing, or it actually shows that you only have 3 or 4 ideas! :)

The web gallery was created automatically in PS CS2. Very handy - I use them for creating an overview of images on a image delivery CD.

  15. Alex,

Loved them all as well as the fabulous presentation, but #20 of the 4 pgymies was my favorite! Thanks for sharing and inspiring!

  16. Great work!

The photos taken "face to face" to the subject are my favorites.

I did put a direct link to your new gallery from my webpage. You'll have some visits from Portugal ;-)

Keep showing the way in digital...

  17. Stunning! Really great. There is a lot I can learn from those shots. They look like there was a lot of work & knowledge involved.

How did you let the mirror appear on the ground? Was is air under a plastic foil?

Or is this a secret?

Thanks for sharing those pictures.

    Greetings,

    Chris

  18. Beautiful art, Alex. Congrats.

  20. Thank you all for the nice words. I thought that this thread had run out of energy a while ago. To answer you questions:

Janet - the presentation is actually just an auto-gallery (Flash 1) generated in Photoshop CS2. I like it very much. One click and its done.

The mirror was a real mirror, Chris. I wanted to do a shot with the mirror and would have been happy with a small one (about the size of a Magazine). Anyway the dive centre in Dahab (Reef 2000) had grander plans and we took this large and incredibly thin mirror shore diving with us. I think an air pocket under plastic might have been easier! Everyone just assumes that this shot is photoshopped!

Lambis, 3 was taken in Cayman, last year, on film! The clear Cayman water and the film are responsible for the blues and blacks. In these days of photoshop, people forget how good film was at lying.
