Inon dealers Singapore or NZ

  1. HI

I'm off to NZ next week stopping off at Singapore on the way. I'm going to be diving off the north island (poor knights and Rainbow W). :o

I have a canon s50 and it's about time a got my self a strobe (instead of borrowing off friends!!). I think I've decided I want an Inon D200. Any comments ?

Also if that is a good choice anybody know if there are any dealers in Singapore or NZ where I may get one a big cheaper ???

    Cheers

    Rob

  2. Don't know about cheap but the dealer for Inon in Singapore is scubacam. Remember if you buy them in Singapore, get your tax back at the airport.

As for Poor Knights and Bay islands, I've never gone in winter... is there any reason in particular you chose this period?

  3. Do Scubacam have a website ?

I'm going in winter because thats the only time my girlfriend can get time off because she's a teacher and can only go in school holidays.

  4. Try:

    www.scubacam.com.sg

    e-mail: info@scubacam.com.sg

    Cheers :o

Oh sorry, thought it was something more to do with the marine sealife... don't mean to pry ;):o It's wonderful diving. Have a great trip. Btw the guy running the show at scubacam is David Cheung (don't know him but my friends in Singapore tell me this)... it may actually be the guy who posted below...so ask for the wetpixel discount :(

  8. I have to add my experience of purchasing from ScubaCam was a very expensive proposition. I was recommended to buy a UWL-100 28AD Wide Angle Conversion Lens but did not do it in the US. On my stopover in Singapore, I decided to pick it up anyways as I wanted to take pics of people underwater. David (CheungyDiver) showed me the older model UFL-165AD Underwater Fisheye Conversion Lens, telling me it was a better lens. I told him that my housing was the 28AD mount on the WDC40. He reassured me it would work and highly recommended the fisheye over the WA lens. I was in a rush and trusted the dealer's recommendation. That was my big mistake.

Turns out the fisheye isn't compatible with the 28AD mount cameras and it vignettes 1/2 the pic and full wide. I actually thought that was how Inon designed until I went on the Inonamerica website and found it wasn't compatible.

I notified scubacam when I returned to Singapore and David who asked me to bring the lens down. I'd said I didn't want my money back since I'd used the lens (discovering it's incompatibility the hard way). David offered to sell the lens for me on consignment and charge me a fee and whatever that was they'd give as discount to the purchase of the compatible wideangle lens. That was a fair solution but I really wanted to know why he recommended that lens to me. He said I should always bring the housing down to test the lens and that Inon Japan never gives them the right info and they rely on Inon America to translate manuals etc. I didn't get the feeling he was even apologetic about the mixup or even more importantly, why he didn't know his products well enough but could still recommend it to customers.

The lens is pretty cheap so it's not a big deal moneywise. I will however have to recommend that future customers research products (at least inon products) thoroughly before going to this dealer, since they themselves admit that Inon Japan does not tell them anything about the products (but Inon America's website has all the compatibility information).
