Taken at Scuba Seraya. I didn't have any help on this one, just swam around and took it. Unfortunately, he's turned away in all my portrait shots, so this landscape is the best I could do.

    Sigma 150mm w/ 500D diopter.

  2. Nice little fish. Good composition. I agree that a vertical shot is the prefered method due to the animal's geometry.

  3. Yey! Great. :)

I guess my point about sea horses has more to do with an underwater photographer's tastes - than that of the general public. Anyone who has photographed a sea horse knows that they love turning away from the camera. And a pic with a sea horse turning away is merely showing the fish's reaction to the photographer - and nothing natural.

Of course to the general public - a slightly turning away shot is full of character and shows the shyness of the critter. So I accept that my view is a minority one!

I know what you are saying. It can be frustrating but I prefer the front on shots...maybe because you do see less of them. Front on with a little eye contact works well for me.

  5. Nice to see you got the brown one. The pinkish one couldn't have been far away ;)

    Cheers.

  6. Two weeks ago, there were 3 at Seraya, orange, yellow (Hystrix I think), and this thorny.

    Cheers
