  1. Here are a few photos from a small grocery store in Narita - what a selection of beautiful fresh fish! I just grabbed the JPEG's so they aren't really properly white balanced...

All kinds of mackerel and jack-mackerel

The shrimp meat is Mantis Shrimp

    Doesn't get any fresher!

And here's a photo of our new friend and Wetpixel member Chris Bangs pointing out the hilarious English names that the Japanese use for their products. This one's a coffee creamer called "Creap!"

Here's another photo of Chris and Sarah at the grocer:

Chris was SUPER NICE - taking time to show Sarah and I around Narita and to take us to a centuries-old Shinto temple

As you can see, despite the herculean travel and the red-eye from Bali, Sarah and I had a great time in Narita w/ Chris. Photo Chris Bangs:

I thought exactly the same thing. Quite a surprise when that first photo loaded....

I really like the goldfish/pond shot. Looks like that would be a very relaxing spot to hang out.

  4. On the arm shot...we were quite sure it was not you. ;)

  5. Haha. I was just looking at the Creap yesterday at the Seiyu store(WalMart in disguise). I ended up getting another brand. Or you could try the Collon candy...mmm...tasty!

Anyway, if yer in Hamamatsu at all, lemme know...hahahaha...nobody ever comes here...

  6. James and all,

You don't see that kind of sea food in any basic market in the US. That is the theory why asians live so long compared to those of us an a Big Mac diet. They eat right ;)

    Nice shots. Still honeymooning?

I DO! on my way to Haneda! Someone actually did come up to see me here in northern Toghigi!

Do you ever visit IZU. the fish are much fresher there since they are still swimming.

  10. CHris, have you had a haircut since i saw you last?  :D

I was actually on my way to Guam to do just that. I f I get my hair cut up here I usually end up looking like I am planning to enlist in the USMC!

  11. James and all,

The big Mac attack has invaded Japan as well. someone told me that there were 26 Micky D's in Shibuya all within an area the size of a major shopping mall in the US. No super size meals though!

For the most healty diet, Korea is the Answer!

Well I don't know about eating right, but they do certainly eat LIGHT! Everytime I come back from Asia and parts of Europe, I get so blown away by the portions served in the US, esp of fatty carbs. I split meals with my gf now because of the waste when we eat out.

Japanese diets of seafood or anything is just smaller portioned. I think caloric intake is the deal... and that they walk more than the average big city dweller in the US. I walk 15 minutes to take the subway in LA! Most of my friends in LA laugh at that like it's outer space behavior.

  13. WARNING: completely off topic!

Talk about waste! I saw some statistics the other day saying that the average American's waste per year has more callories than the average Indian consumes in a year.
