  1. hallo there

i am an artist and i am interested in photographing figures underwater, say for arguments sake in a swimming pool.

    i own a nikon D70 with 18-70mm lens and that's it.

i have looked at the NEXUS housing and am very interested but its very expensive!

    i need the whole kit;

    housing D70

ikelite ss200 - i will only be able to buy one strobe for the moment.

    ultra light arm set

    strobe charger

strobe cord (well everything needed to make the whole thing work ha ha!)

    dome port (18-70mm nikkor lens)

i have read up some and apparently the dome port is a better option for what i am looking to use it for....????

you are the expert, is this gibberish or fact?

    all help will be appreciated

i can not afford to make a mistake in buying the wrong equipment so please give me an informed opinion!

  2. I would say you have a great looking list there.

Yes the domeport would be best for that lens.

One thing you might want to add to your list is a set of close up filters for your lens. That lens does not like to focus very close and so many of the photos you might want to take would be improved with a close up set. You can find these wherever you bought your camera.

They typically come in sets of +1, +2, and +4 and many filter companies sell them. Its best to get good quality on these, but the higher quality do cost more....

Nexus makes a great housing, one of our members put up a review of their housing for it awhile ago, i will see if i can find it...

  3. thanks mike!

sounds like a good quality housing then.

how would you rate the ikelite housing and kit, compared to the nexus?

    ciao

  4. My personal preference between the two would be the Nexus. It is a much smaller unit and has really good optics on their ports.

Ike makes a great housing, i still own one for my old N90s and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. But personally i would go with the smaller aluminum if given the choice.
