The new 5D is in stock at B&H, I wonder who's gonna make a housing for it first, and how long it will take.

Oh this is just killing me. I want one of these sooooo bad! Ike, maybe we can go in 50-50 on this one. We each pay 50% then I have them send it to you for measurement and testing...
Then I get to use it after that.
So you're thinking "What's the catch?" right? :-)
Seriously though, this looks like an awesome camera - lots of megapixels and the noise performance looks on the par w/ the 20D which is great. I'm hoping Seacam will make a housing for it, but I'm sure Ike will be first.
Cheers

We are hard at work on that one, prepping up the terrain for it's arrival. should be a quick turn over.

I'd be disappointed if they can't do better than that. It has the same pixel pitch as the 1DmkII, so noise should be as least as good. From what I've read so far the 5D has a weaker AA filter than the 1DmkII so the per pixel resolution should be better still. I think Canon figured that with the improvements in raw processing they can deal with more color artifacts due to the weaker AA.

No need to worry James

This camera seems to attract several housing builders already: UK-Germany, Sealux, Seacam, Aquatica ... and from your post I assume Ikelite too.
From what I've seen, 5D is better than 20D in terms of low noise. Some consider it the lowest noise camera at all. Well, I think we have to wait until people use the camera.

Especially this ISO800 picture has impressed me:

Whoops, I said 20D by accident. Check out Phil's excellent pixel pitch schematics on dpreview.com to see how the pixels compare to the other models.
At 11 megapixels and full frame, Canon did NOT have a low noise camera with the 1Ds but it looks like they've made vast improvements in noise reduction without sacrificing resolution/acuity. I'm glad to hear about the less agressive AA filter, something I could use for my camera...
Julian, where did you hear about planned housings from Seacam and UK-Germany?
Cheers

Looks like it will be an awesome camera and I just bought a back up Rebel.
After my dive trip to BVI this November there may be 2 Rebels and an Ikelite TTL on Ebay. -
Check out these photos posted by a 5D user who mounted a Canon 16-35 and Sigma 12-24:

Very impressive!!!

Hi James,
I was worried that Sealux wouldn't offer a 5D housing and I have to switch again. So I called some others to find out who is up to a 5D housing. Although I liked my Seacam gear, I would most probably stay with Sealux because selling all ports and buying everything new is really a pain.

Adobe camera RAW update 3.2 supports 5D RAW files already. I've just opened one with PS CS2:

mh, I could get used to such files
