@Davide DB adding external screen etc in such a system, it will turn into an "expensive" if you see the price of the camera per se. Remote control of them via a surface buoy and connection with laptop, for your river case, or for shallow water applications, could be solution.
for me, and will happen if i will grand the funding for BRUVS in seagrass habitats, for which i don't need such externalities, the battery extension is game changer. T-Housing offer a similar solution as well, but here we have a housing for 4 camera models.
-
I can see lots of potentials at this system.
1) You can use 4 models of cameras with no limitations.
2) The extra battery can allow me to install it in BRUVs and other systems for long term timelaps data collection or for long data collection for underwater photogrammetry (coral reef monitoring, seagrass restoration sites monitoring, etc).
3) The M16 ports can allow me to add extra control or sensors
With ~ 2k i can build a versatile system with lots of scientific applications.

An interesting filter appears > https://www.goaskerin.com/backscatterxterminator/
Seems that in an automated way, inspired by astrophotography (see the history below), backscatter problems disappear in the postprocessing
HISTORY OF BSXT
Backscatter is a notorious problem for underwater photographers, and the idea for BSXT came about when Bruce Warner, a colleague of Erin Quigley, recognized an unexpected parallel between backscatter in underwater images and star fields in astrophotography. In both cases, tiny bright spots—whether particles in the water or stars in the sky—stand out against a darker background, and this shared visual issue sparked a great idea. Erin and Bruce approached the astrophotography AI software genius Russell Croman of RC Astro, and the rest is history! RC Astro was founded in Austin, Texas, by Russell Croman to create innovative solutions for astronomical image processing. Russell’s award-winning work has appeared in online and print publications including NASA’s Astronomy Picture of the Day (16 photos) and National Geographic. He won the Advanced Imaging Conference’s Hubble Award in 2010 for significant and sustained contributions to the astrophotography community, and in 2024 he won the Photographic Society of America’s Progress Award, an honor he shares with Jacques Cousteau who won the award in 1977. Russell’s astrophotography tools have revolutionized the field of astrophotography, and are used world-wide by professionals and amateurs alike.Has anybody use it yet?
I see that @Alex_Mustard in FB post has already test it.

You don't want to throw away a Keldan, do you? What model is it? Once you repair the flooded one, if you have a pair, they will be very easy to sell. They are very rare in the used market, and there is a reason for that.
BTW I didn't know there were vacuum valve lights. I think it's unique.
It depends on your use but if you have a Keldan CRI you will find huge differences in color correction in post. Impossible to compare them with the BigBlue ones that don't even have constant output. Again, they are the cheapest on the market for a reason.
I see they are used mostly as model lights to enlight caves and wrecks.
is the discontinued Dive 4S model - not video light but actual torch. Now they have the 8S model.
So, i have mixed feelings ....
cost of DHL + service + battery ....
-
Keldan ask to send the torch for inspection as well since damage might occur also to the head.
Battery is dead!
And here come the question, should i send it or buy a new (Bigblue TL4800P LED dive light / tech light or analogous)?
And making a comparison with my Weefine Solar Flare 13000 Lumen (i own the previous version of 12000 Lumen), what i see as a missing part is the vacuum valve that Weefine have.
Maybe that has to be a standard (?) to high end lights and torches (even for tec dive) since that componet of equpment makes you to use is as mandatory step.

As the title says, if you don't check that the cap is tight at the battery area, then you will flood it....
The light (is the keldan torch) seems to be alive as i can understand that is sealed with resin from the battery area.
And i have to fix the Keldan Battery 49 Wh Li-Ion.
New cost nearly 400 euros, so any advice how to fix it will be great.
As i understand, 4 18650 with a microcontroler and the changing are are what makes the battery pack.
How to proceed?

We have done it for several missions and still use it. Small dome (4", 4"3) and hang the rig on the right d-ring with a double boltsnap. No covers, etc or tight the neoprene cover, otherwise you will loose it. You travel fine and when reach the target, you stop etc. SUEX has nowadays several solutions to be used and am on the doorstep to buy one.

Where was the photo taken?
Highly propable > https://projectseahorse.org/blooming-beauty-of-stratoni/. A bizzare colony exist there, with running activities by a local club.

It is possible to encounter a seahorse posing in the open water with an earpad or a facemask, but the chances are extremely small. Therefore such photos will be always suspects of un-allowed manipulations (without witnesses one will never know)...
From what I know, judges in competitions are instructed to reject any photo that is suspicious of such manipulations - hard to understand that such photos made it (but one has to admit that these photos are very strong in showing the impact of pollution on the sea)...

In the Mediterranean Sea, to my experience, NEVER.
And since i can guess the place of the image, which host a significant population, easily i can make series of such manipulated material ...

You talk about that?

No revoke but several rumors on manipulation ...

I saw the episode and The BTS.
I understood why they used the old gopro with the Telesin case and the homemade weight.
Those are the only shots that the BBC crew didn't take but the guy from the salmon conservation foundation who has been going every day for 5 years to film them.
Now I feel less stupid 😉
Btw we need TELESIN type housings that are afforable to include extended battery packs for various applications (i.e, BRUVS for long time - these are baited video structures to monitor the fish diversity of a certain habitat).
We have some (https://www.backscatter.com/Anglerfish-GoPro-HERO9-HERO10-HERO11-Underwater-Housing-with-Battery-Plate-AFCL-GP9-F570) but are way expensive in comparison to the TELESIN styles.

Thanks for the clues and approaches you follow!
Am not that meticulus at all. Thats why i have Aquatics since 2012 (no service at the first).
But since the company is in Canada and the European sector is nowadays small (and a bad experience from a Service Center) i decide to move to Nauticam (almost everywhere in Europe you can find a dealer).
Amazing ergonomics, interesting building approach and lots of ports and adapters to use my Aquatica staff.
No downside for that investment!
The electric air blow is something that i have to use in Nauticam due to the lots of holes they have on the top (and to blow water from the buttons).
Let see how far it will do!
-
Happy owner of Nauticam system (migration from Aquatica), the rings are more complex from what i was used (just bayonet system and thats it).
Lock systems, zoom staff, lock mechanisms - all that have moving parts with orings and seals.
How often do we need to service also that parts of the equipment?

An ex seagrass meadow, taken care by intensive and continuus anchorage of boats within a marine protected area and a dead noble shell.
A combo of two emblematic species / habitat formers / ecological engineers that we loose day by day.
Even if the seagrass meadows are abundant in Greece and elswhere, locally we have huge issues.
The noble shell / fun mussel - we are among the last that we see it alive, abundant everywhere.
Now only in two locations in Greece and the Sea of Marmara and few spots in Croatia.
What we can do for that?
Anchorage systems and ban of free anchorage is the way to go.
For the fun mussel / the noble shell? Practically nothing ....

When i see the same images, i couldn;t believe it! How dramatic the same spot change, from colorful stars to muddy algae .....
And this timely aligned with a lecture i will give on NYU Abu Dhabi about "Seascapes under siege", where art is part of the way of awareness and shaking the society!
That article is a nice review (scientific) > https://www.cambridge.org/core/services/aop-cambridge-core/content/view/6422D490CBDB30E9798D4D41AC20FA67/S2754720523000136a.pdf/the-role-of-art-in-coastal-and-marine-sustainability.pdf

Insta360 Unveils the X5: A New Generation in 360° Action Cameras
in Compact System
Yes and i have a new, not yet in the water, X4 - January 2025. And the housing is not compatible with X5 ... Normal, you will say.
The question is "HOW much better is X5 from X4 for use in VR content creation for use in education (ocean literacy, dry dives for persons that cannot dive, etc.).
