I did some searching and did not find a thread related to this (there's one called A6700 Settings about video) so I thought it might be nice to create a thread for those shooting the A6700 to discuss best practices settings etc. I'm shooting in a Nauticam housing with a Smart Turtle TTL Trigger I'm currently shooting with YS-D2 strobes and using either the 16-50 kit lens or the 90mm 2.8 macro depending on situation. I've only done one trip so far with the setup (I used mostly the same setup with my a6500 from 2018, so it's fairly similar) I usually start with TTL flashes as I find I get pretty decent results that way but if the critters aren't shy will switch to going manual as I can. One frustration I'm finding right now is there doesn't seem to be anyway to just turn off the flashes in the camera, and as such I can not in Program mode use the knob to shift the aperture/shutter speed values while maintaining exposure. (Going to the flash settings and selecting Off says it's not available in this mode) I'm shooting in RAW Mode, I select the Auto Underwater White balance as a starting place, and then am shotting in either Aperture priority or Program mode usually using a center balanced metering mode and a center tracking focus using the back button to focus at all times (I turn of focus on shutter). I tend to use focus peaking and DMF as my focus mode as it allows me to see when eyes are in focus a little more easily. My other frustration is that with the 16-50 lens, on the A6500 in DMF you could hold the focus button down and move the knob that actuates the zoom and it would actually adjust focus, letting go of the focus button it would revert to actuating the Zoom, unfortunately on the A6700 they changed this behaviour and I now have the C3 button set to toggle between manual and auto focus modes so that I can manually adjust the focus (handy when I'm running a macro diopter on the lens)

Spoke with Rob at Backscatter just now and it's apparently not an issue with the height but the length. Apparently at the front of the trigger the LED's plug in with a usb type connector and that cable ends up too long going towards the front of the A6700 housing, very unfortunate but the cost perhaps of having a more robust connector for the LED's

I’m not sure I understand will the universal trigger with the outboard LEDs not work in the Sony a6700 nauticam housing there seems to be quite a bit of room around the smart turtle in that setup so I’d expect that one to be able to work

Revising the listing again, it's no longer on ebay, but I'll go for $1200 for just the housing if anyone is interested (including the housing batteries and pump)

It says Sony full size housings for Nauticam, wondering if it'll work with the A7C or the A6700 housings?

Revising the listing again, to include the Vacuum port as it turns out that it won't work on the new a6700 housing I have. Happy to talk to anyone here directly instead of going through EBay as well, to be clear now this is - Nauticam Sony A6500 housing, freshly serviced by backscatter and not been wet since - Vacuum valve and pump installed in housing - Sony A6500 Camera Body - Two batteries for the camera body - Two aux battery packs that fit in the housing and help keep the camera running all day, easily do three dives without opening the housing. Asking $1800 for the complete setup.

Any further news on the Sony trigger, it's now quite close to end of the year...

I already have the 90mm macro so I believe that means I have the n85-n120 adapter I certainly have to put the lens in through the front of the unit.

Does there exist somewhere a good primer to understand what the requirements are for a given lens for adapters? I'm sort of curious to try out the 20-70mm f4 on my a6700 housing, but it's not one of the lens listed in nauticam's port list, and when I queried them I got back something that definitely looked like they were talking about the 16-50mm lens and not the 20-70 because it wasn't a dome at all. I've read the information about the extensions but I think I'm missing the basic back understanding of what to know to make it make sense. Appreciated!

Upgrading to a A6700 now so I'm selling my 6500 housing. I last dove with it in Hawaii in January and in April/May I dropped it at Backscatter in Monterey for a full service (all o-rings replaced etc) to the tune of some $850 I haven't had it back in the water since. Comes with the original Nauticam extended battery for the A6500 which worked on my last dives, plus the Amazon battery that other people have used successfully (already modded to fit the housing and with the correct cable) listed here: Nauticam Sony A6500 Housing | eBay The housing has a leak detector and can work with a vacuum system but does not have it installed as that system is now in my a6700 housing.

From the price of that one I'm guessing it's not TTL compatible, but who knows, very little information there.

Has anyone got any experience with the Turtle on a set of YS-D2 (non J Variant). The website seems to indicate that one of the variants will work for TTL, the UWT specifically does not work with those strobes.

I'm a now mostly 80/80 recreational diver (80 degree water/80 feet vis :)) and I shoot a Sony A6500 in a Nauticam housing with either the 16-50 kit lens and a WWL-1 or a 90 Macro. Using dual YS-D2 strobes. I enjoy shooting smaller creatures mostly but like to see the larger ones in the water.
