  1. Cheers Alex,

Had a quick look and leaving on the 29th from Luton and coming back on the 31st was around £100 with taxes. So looks good.

Also had a look at their website for film showings. Mine is being played on the Saturday morning in the Spondylia room..? Now I'm starting to get excited.. last year i'd never thought i would get my film finished let alone being played at the Antibes. WOW !!.

Sorry folks..It's my very first film so I'm a bit excited..

    DeanB... ;):angry::huh:

  2. Hi Dean,

The Sponyllia room is downstairs. Looking forward to meeting you there. Good luck in the Competition.

    Alex

  3. Cheers Alex,

Do you or anyone else out there know of the nearest, half decent hotels, B+B to stay at.. Also taxis/bus fares to the festival from the airport.. It will be my first time there so any help or guidence on this and other things you think are usefull will be a plus.

Don't want to end up way off the mark owing a fortune in taxis fares and sleeping in a gutter...!! ( my usual sat night in my home town )

    DeanB...

  4. Most of the official hotels are fine. Taxis to and from the Airport are expensive. If your french is up to it, take a bus or try and find.

Once you are in Juan Les Pins it is very easy as everywhere is just a few minutes walk away.

    Alex

  5. Thanks,

My french is very Del boy. But i could try the usual pigeon/collins approach..

    Cheers again

Au voir my fromage frais ( told you)

  6. Eric, I saw that your turtle won the Animal Antics in Nature's Best at the beginning of September. That's awesome. Congratulations. It is always good for us all when UW images stand up and win in non-UW competitions. Have you shared that news on Wetpixel yet (I was away for most of September so may have missed it)?

Alex - I was notified, but I haven't seen the issue yet, nor heard anything else about it... Just received the issue. Very exciting! The turtle is also the first image on the flash at their website.

  7. Hotels in Antibes: I stayed at the Hôtel Cécil - Antibes Juan-les-Pins, which was simple, relatively inexpensive, and comfortable enough.

  8. Dean

The easiest way to get to Juan Les Pins via public transport is to take a bus. I believe the company is called Rapide Cote D'Azur still. It should be a direct bus which goes all the way to Marseille and will stop in Juan Les Pins.

Another more adventurous route is bus to the SNCF train station from Nice Cote D'AZur. There is the TER (regional) train which goes along the coastal cities. You go west toward Cannes and get off at Juan Les Pins (which I think is a stop after Antibes and before Cannes). I believe the schedule is hourly or so. If you have a lot of luggage, the bus is best. If you've never been to the Cote D'Azur, the train is a fun route although not very scenic. The good thing is summer is over so the bus is probably fast now.

For hotels, I'm sure the others who've been to the fest can recommend. For a more private hotel, I've stayed at Le Meridien Juan-Les-Pins Beach Resort, which is nice and has a private beach.

    Cheers Alex,

  9. Hi all,

    Cheers for the infomation..

Do they notify you before the festival if you win anything, or is it on the day.???

I was, at first only going if i won anything ( expenses & time issues ) but i think i will go anyway to meet people with the same ambitions and passion as myself and it will be fun..

  10. Do they notify you before the festival if you win anything, or is it on the day.???

The competition is judged at the Festival - and the winners are only decided on the Saturday afternoon. So there is no notification before hand!

I missed picking up some awards a couple of years ago because I was drinking at the bar, just downstairs from the auditorium where the prize giving was taking place. Most gutting!

    Alex

  11. Nice one Alex,

Sounds like my kind of evening...

I'm waiting on a friend to say if he's joining me as the girlfriend is a non-diver. I will have to hurry by the looks of it the hotels are filling up..!!!

Awards on the night then..I will have to get my glad rags on for either the jubilation / commiseration drinkfest after..

    Cheers

    DeanB..

  12. Had reservations and everything... then came this work assignment... had top bail out... :-(

    See you next year Alex!

  13. Hi Alex

I am sorry for the late answer. It was the first time I went to the CMAS competition, and it was great. It’s a nice thing to meet people from around the world and share experiences, techniques and tips. This year was the last one with film. From what I’ve heard 2007 will be only digital.

The results are now on-line at the CMAS page – including the pictures http://www.cmas2000.org/comspo/pho/championnats

There were 5 categories, and each of the 50+ photographers had to submit one picture in each category.

Then the judges would choose 10 out of the 50+ pictures that were displayed in a light box to go to public judgment.

Then latter at night, the top 10 pictures were projected with a slide projector. A multimedia projector projected at the side of the image the name and country of the photographer. Then the judges voted in each picture, and we could see it ranking up or down in real time.

The sum of the notes would result in the champion of the world.

This year was Denis Palbiani, from Italy. A really nice guy and great photographer.

I didn’t place any of my pictures in the top 10 so I didn’t get any score ;) .

Latter a rank at CMAS was published and I ranked this way:

    11° Macro with theme

    11° WA with model

    14° WA without model

    15° Fish

    28° Macro without theme.

The Spanish worked rally hard to organize the championship and did an excellent job. The Medas Islands are a great place to dive. The other European competitors have said it is considered the best place in the Mediteran for diving.

I won’t be able to go to Antibes this year; it would be very hard to gat away from work right now. But hope to meet you some day in another event.

    Best regards,

    Marcelo Krause

  14. That's a pity Michel. I was very much looking forward to meeting you and have some good banter.

Thank you for the information on the CMAS World Championship, Marcelo. I am excited to hear that there is a move to digital from 2007. I am sorry to hear you won't be in Antibes, but I think that many of the others from CMAS will be.

    Alex

  15. I am embarrassed Alex... and best half is p. off big time... we wanted to enter the digital slide show competition... this would have left less room for our Italian friends to take all the prizes...

I also had new drum sticks to have fun with the band... :-(

I suspect you will have a few entries in the photo comp... looking forward to seeing the winning list.

Have a Pastis on me and say hello to the gang!

    Michel

  16. I am now Antibes. Having a problem with my email. But will post more soon.

    Alex

  17. Good luck with the comp Alex and to anyone else entering!
