Fisheye battery problem?

  1. betti154 you’re a legend! After bending the contacts even more and a couple of attempts to insert the battery into the charger while holding it close to my ear: I heard it! The soft buzzing was followed by sequential illumination of the green lights (rather than all at once for the failed false charging). The Fix Light now shines brightly (and hopefully for longer than the ~20 minutes previously experienced.) Thank you, thank you, thank you! :D

Listening for the buzzing is a most helpful diagnostic and while it would be hard to detect in a noisy environment or on a boat you should spread this useful hint to other frustrated Fisheye users (well I guess you have.)

As for the less than enthusiastic support from the distributor, it is best to not say anything if you can’t say something nice. It was my first purchase from them and it may be they provide great support for customers who buy more substantial packages. It is unfortunate though because while I try to support local and domestic Australian businesses, my travel schedule has allowed me to purchase most of my photographic gear overseas and I have found that repairs and support from the US to be quick and excellent in addition to the substantial price differential. The experience with the Fisheye light seems to be a lesson…….

  2. Clearly the manufacturer isn't taking any measures to eliminate the root causes of the problems associated with this light. For $400 you'd think they would recall and repair. I won't purchase any of their products for this reason. So far there isn't a compact, reliable light in that price range. All have suffered from battery drain or some other technical issue.

  3. Scale,

I am extemely glad that my rambling have made some sense, that they've added some value. I though I would be difficult to convey the noise concept, bubt it sounsd like you've hit it on the head. Hopefully others understand too and get the most out of what is potentially a great light.

  4. I have gotten the false full charge indication as well. Full charge after being plugged in all night only to find that only 1 or 2 LEDs of the charge indicator on the light come on. Put the battery back in the charger and it charges all the way up. I have re-done this same scenario several times now. Seems to be a problem with faulty logic in the charger, otherwise a good light. One can only trust the charge indicator on the light, also one must put a full load on the battery to test, even if briefly to avoid overheating the lamp.
