  1. We have been ask by a Aussie producer to see if we can come up with an action, adventure, drama idea for a UK station for a one hour special featuring yours truly and my partner Kelly.

Yes everyone has done SHARKS  need something abit different. Unfortually it need to be over the top/dramatic as that's what TV stations want now days. Have to sell that commercial space. <_<

They are not interested in a stunning underwater shot that may have took you the whole dive to get but will take some action material in dirty wobbly conditions shot on any camera no problems.

Anyone have any angles/ideas out there?

    Wags

  2. Salties baby! Salties!!!!!

  3. Man mating with jelly fish? that would be a charged shoot!

  4. Well leaving bestiality out of this (nice shawn... CO getting to cold?), sex does sell. My script writing services are pretty cheap: 1st class tix out to Exmouth ex LA, I'll even stay at Baywater at the back packer place... Oh and since it's off season, I want to do the humpies out at Muiron and beyond. Supply that and I'll write you a script worthy of a raspberry award.

  5. Do jelly fish count as beasts or fish or something else...wouldnt it be fishiality?..and ya...it's getting cold:)

  6. hey Dru...

Write me a script for mantas....i'll supply the footage, you edit and produce.....And market of course...

  7. Ciao Darlings !!

Being a multi award winning filmmaker I suggest an element of dramatic atmosphere for the opening sequences. Suggesting wide shot scenery of habitat.

Followed by a cooler ambient tempoed mid section, mixed infused storyline and intentional intuitve, informative dialogue.

Then spice things up for a death defying finale...

Other wise hire some lesbian/ bisexual strippers and PARTY..

    P.s Did I mention 'Award winning filmmaker' :o <_<

  8.

Thanks all for your great input.

If I had my way I would go with the "hire some lesbian/ bisexual strippers and PARTY" But I have a beautifull girlfriend...but could get Dru to write up a script.. I hear he might be good on a subject like that :o

Bound to get huge ratings....and of course the girls would need to be swimming with Manta's so we would have to shoot the whole thing over at Yap.

No seriously if we can come up with a great story that they like, then it will happen for sure and it can be anywhere in the world. So keep thinking..... and maybe we all can be in it.

Maybe film the boys (without using a pole cam) hanging off the of the mermaid line getting their camera's bitten by those Tiger Sharks would be an interesting action pack story.

  9. Like the sound of us all in it..

Maybe a story based on some rugged (us) diver / camera operatives in search of an elusive / dangerous / large aquatic creature(s) of myth to get on film.

As long as I get a macho name like "Chuck firestorm" or "Kit strong" Or "Mike Veitch" no wipe the last one, no ones that tough.

  10. Hi Wags

Maybe you could show that Manta mating sequence that made you drop your housings!!

Brits on Tour always has an angle for a UK TV station.... hint hint

Ah well I couldn't come anyway. My wife is attempting to ban me from diving until October when our little peanut is due. Hey that's an idea...

    ----Dramatic voiceover----

"A Man's desperate quest to convice his pregnant wife that it's ok for him to dive without her!"

    Maybe??

    Cheers, Simon

P.S If Dean doesn't get to be called 'Chuck Firestorm' then can I put 2nd dibs on it??

  11. Jeeezasss Simon..

I think I mentioned rugged macho men. 'WIFE'S BANNING ME' :( That's way off macho.

    Maybe another angle.

A crack team of under the thumb divers try and get back their masculinity.. But then fail miserably as they have to do the shopping and tidy the house..:o

Come on lets 'splash in'.. But then again that's what got you into trouble in the first place ;);)

P.s Don't let the missus read this I'd never hear the last of it :) Still I could always kidnap Simon and then go diving.

  12. Now we're getting somewhere.

We could do this as a REAL documentary.

See, in 2004 I brought a group of UK-based divers over to Finland to do some wreck stuff. After a week of bad weather and a bit of a demolition derby in the gear department the only two married ones (neither of whom is a WP member afaik, I hasten to add) of the group ended up going out to town. Fortunately for them the last day of diving got blown out for the heros re-appeared only the next evening just in time for the final party.

    So, we have:

    - An exotic location (yeah, right)

    - Deep (optionally), dark (definitely) and Dangerous (explosives, anyone) diving

    - We can round it up with some ladies of leisure with a Russian accent in the end

    Hows about that?

    timo

  13. Dean the key word there is 'attempting'

It's a bit like me 'attempting' to keep my office clean, or me 'attempting' to tidy up - ie it's never gonna happen!!

(Oh god I hope Zoe doesn't read this or I'm in deep shit!)

Timo diving in Finland v diving in Ningaloo.... hmmmm hmmmmm hmmmmmmmmm

    Cheers, Chuck Firestorm

  14. Yeah, Right!

Just think about it for a moment: How many nice and cosy pina colada sipping warmawater diving documentaries have you seen? And how many from Finland? (here you might want to substitute the Pina Colada with Vodka, but anyway)

Face it, this is award winning stuff. It's got the angle and the element of impossibility. A bit like shooting a mating sequence of the greater Mariana Örk. Except, of course that in this case the mating is - well - you get the drift anyway.

  15. How about one on Bikini Atol? Start with stock footage of the hydrogen bomb tests. Show what an H-bomb can do to ships.

  16. If Sharks are ok,

I think shooting off Jim Abernethy's boat could be a real crowd pleaser. Most groups (bbc, nat geog) shooting there try to keep the divers out of the pics and make it look natural.

What about a story of first time shark divers (two women) who go on Jim's boat. We show all the crazy footage (dangling on the line, huddled on tiger beach, wrangling, bait with divers, dives masters shaking crates and pushing off tigers, etc) and explore the deep physcological fears they must overcome. It has all the makings of a hit: big teeth, fear, adrenoline, drama, and of course beautiful ladies.

We call it "Crouching Tigers, Hidden Hammers". If we go with this, I want in on the shoot for sure:) I want in actually anyway!

    -shawn

  17. How about getting that elusive sperm whale and giant squid fight sequence?

Another thought is diving the volcanic tubes when one of the volcanoes in Hawai decides to spout.

You can call it Coming with Volcanoes-Steve

  18. Ha , ha..

This has gone freaking crazy overdrive.. :o:blink:

Simon, just kidding buddy. Congrats on the wee one.

Timo. Fantastic I love the sound of it. Lets get the Rusky beauties lap dancing on the bows of the wrecks doing strange things with stiff Barracuda ;)

Anybody need a camera-person /drinking buddy drop me a line..

    Cheers all.

  19. Actually,

In Marko Röhr's film Underwater Iceland cameraman Jyrki Arnikari actually dives inside a live Geysir (The Great Geysir for those interested in that sort of stuff). Not terribly photogenic, but the drama is definitely there:" There is no way of knowing how the presense of the diver will affect the stability of the geysir..."

  20. This thread makes me laugh..... wait til Wags wakes up....

Wags, there is an island in Indonesia somewhere with massive amounts of a bunch of different Sea Snakes, and i mean hundreds in one location, got to get there by liveaboard.

"Hunt for the lair of the Sea Serpent...."

But, i still like the idea of cage diving with Salt Water crocs...
