Mini Cinema Plan

  1. Well just thought we would fill you in abit on what we are planing.

We now own these two buildings in down town Exmouth and with one we want to turn it into a Mini Cinema to offer all the tourists that come to the Ningaloo Reef free educational video nights on the big screen via a HD projector.

Why, we love the marine would and we want to do our bit to help protect it and try to change the Western Australian mentallity of killing everything in the ocean. Now we will be playing mostly our own footage but we thought that maybe you guys out there that have a DVD cut up and are selling may be interested in allowing us to play it at the free public video nights.

We could also have them on sale for people to buy. If anyone is interested then maybe we could buy some off you to see how it goes. Maybe an ongoing thing if they sell well.

  2. PM sent. What a bold idea, wags. Love it.

  3. Aaron

Well done on making the "Still On Her keel"

    Watched the demo.

It played out to our TV. These TV out cards are great.

Can we get a copy from you? Will pay.

The room we plan to use should hold like 100 people so we think running different shows each night should be a hit as there is not much to do here at night for tourists. Each night play one or two different movies from all over the diving world. Should sell heaps as people on holidays just want to spend money. :D We would buy the DVD's up front and order more as they sell.

See you were just over this way, how did the GBR go for you.

  4. Fantastic idea Wags. Good luck with it. Have emailed you.

  5. Hey Wagsy, Congratulations on the cinema project--this is a wonderful idea! By better familiarizing locals and visitors with the undersea world, you are helping build awareness and appreciation of marine life. And this, hopefully, can lead to better conservation. This is precisely the kind of foundation needed to bring about better stewarding of the ocean. Any way I can be of any help, please just let me know!

  6. Well Aaron & Nick seem up for it so far and thanks again guys. Anyone else out there with a cool underwater DVD that they sell.

Mary, maybe we could get some of those cool podcast you have made on anything conservation in DV format. Could string a few together to make like 30- 60 mins of viewing. That would be cool and feel it would be a great way to help spread the word. Do you think that's possible Mary?. NTSC is fine, we can convert.

  7. Wagsy,

    Verry nice plan!

I have a DVD for selling, it is with 3 difrent movie's on.

Disguise and deceit on the reef (winner of Antibes 2005) filmed in Philipines and Indonesië

    Galapagos

    Mozambique

They all are in English and French

If you are intrested let me know!

    Bruno

  8. Hey Bruno, the english version sounds great and we would be interested in it for sure.

It will be a couple months before we have it all set up but to view the DVD's first would be great then we would buy 10 or so off you to get going and then see how they sell.

If you guys want money for these first ones let me know and we can PAL PAL or something.

    Our address is

Any of you know of a good 1080i projector. DLP or LCD....?

  9. good stuff mr wags..

i will get my act together soon and send something your way..

  10. Hi Paul,

I've got a couple of DVD's available too. Ocean Dreams Vol.1 and 2. Just a medley of my DV stock footage. Each DVD contains three items with a total combined run time of around 50 minutes or so.

I could also make a mini series up of the available podcasts I have also.

Real busy at the mo but am getting a whole load of these DVD's duplicated out to DVD10 discs. I'll be carrying both PAL and NTSC versions of each volume on these dual sided discs (saves on inventory space).

    Cheers,

    Mark.

  11. O WOW, you guys are all great. :D

Hows this....for all those that send over their DVD to us to check out, we will send you a copy of our new Naturally Ningaloo DVD we are cutting up right now shot with the HDV camera's, so make sure you include your address.

Then once we get it all set up, we will buy more of the ones we think will sell to the public and see how that goes. We will have them all in a display so anyone coming in can buy them as well.

Thinking now that we could run different ones each night of the week and during the season it will get packed that for sure. Maybe two session per night :D

Buy the way, we are setting up a BYO restaurant right beside it as well and...well .....we cannot give out all our plans, never know who is reading.... :)

Mark, thats a great idea on double sided DVD PAL-NTSC. We often thought of doing it but never did.

Wagsy, that would be really cool. Let me see what I can pull together. Because the podcasts are a labor of love, and folks contribute their work on that basis, it would be best that I look into putting together a podcast compilation that would be for viewing, but not for sale. It would be a great way to have the short vids shown and get even more exposure, both on the issues and for the filmmakers, and remain in keeping with the spirit of the project.

I also want to touch bases with Marty Snyderman about the DVD he and I released a little over a year ago called, "Sharks and Their Kin with Marty Snyderman." It's a wonderful DVD, and I might be able to pull together a PAL version for you!

You're on to something fantastic, Wagsy!! And that you are including other imagers in your project is the greatest! You rock, Wagsy!!

    Mary Lynn

  13. Dang, makes me want to hang up the plumbing career.....would be nice to do something I actually enjoyed.

    Go Wags/Kelly.

  14. Whatever I can offer,I'd be glad to lend, sale or whatever. Mary Lynn has several of my films and she is free to give them to you in whatever format works best.

    Super idea and great initiative

    Steve B)

  15. Mary, that sounds great if you can string some podcasts together. What we could also do is burn the podcasts onto blank DVD" DATA disks and give then out to anyone that wants one. Then they can take them home and watch or put them onto their podcasts . We can burn them this end. Also could have you DiveFilm LOGO displayed so people can find you on the web, and of course Wetpixel.

The Sharks and their Kin sounds great as well and that would certainly attract people in. PAL DVD players can play NTSC DVD's and most TV's now days are mutliformat so we might be able to get away with just the NTSC versions. Send one over and we will try it out.

Steve thanks for your offer as well and we would love to play your material.

Dave, we do need a Plummer for some work on the buildings, come on over :D

We will feed the projector out from a computer so we can play not only any DVD but other Video formats as well.

Anyone know if theses are any good. EMP-TW700

Wags, then you can charge $9.95 a day to let us watch you do stuff. :D

Depending on your budget, check out the new Sony VPL-VW50. It's Sony Qualia like quality for under $5k. It'll definitely make whalesharks and humpies look more impressive. Not to mention nudies :D

Then there's also the issue of 1080 vs 720 P, DVI vs HDMI, BluRay vs HD DVD. Isn't geek ware fun?

  20. $9.95 to charge people to watch me?!

right.. who wants to see me work in yap?
