ah, gotcha... i am just wondering what price diff would be between the small HD and the PDX10 you mentioned before. if its not that big, i would go with the HD.
if its a big diff, go with the other for daily stuff for sure

My Gates 2.5" monitor has been incredible. I've never even removed the o-ring in 3 or 4 years as it looks like that might damage it. Do you know why yours leaked Anders?
Yes, it was ccmpletely my own fault. The wires in the monitor was a tad long so one time when I hurried to close it after a battery change, one of the cables pressed on the O-ring slightly, enough to start the minute leak. It am not sure if the leak happened in the lake while ice diving or in the pool taping skills a few days later, but the leak was a fact and corrosion had begun...
What can I say, I was even more inexperienced than today and I did the misstake of stressing when putting it together. ![]()
Live and learn huh?

i use DEPP for insurance, i give em over $1000 annually.. yikes...
It seems to me you can get coverage a lot cheaper.
If you are a at least a silvermember of Nikonians.org you can apply for insurrance with NikSecure.
Annual Premiums
* $0 - $5,000 USD insured equipment value for $150 USD flat (3%)
* $5,001 - $7,500 USD insured equipment value for $190 USD flat (2.53%)
* $7,501 - $10,000 USD insured equipment value for $225 USD flat (2.25%)
* $10,001 - $20,000 USD insured equipment value for $400 USD flat (2%)
It covers all photo and/or video equipment, housings, strobes, any brand, top side, underwater etc. Worth to take a look atI would say. If you need more coverage than USD20,000 you can pay EUR400 for EUR20,000 insured value (would be USD26,000 today)
Oscar.
Thanks for the heads up Oscar, will have a look into it ( i am in the over 20K crowd)
I was only 'rubbing yer' bubbles me old son..
Compared to my little probs yours is an ARSE!!!
There will be a few A1's up for sale when the reports of the Fx7's capability U/W come out..Although I might keep mine for aboves..

Thanks for that Oscar but I've been down that route and unfortunately they don't cover video gear. I asked them:
1. I am an underwater videographer. Can I insure a video camera, underwater video housing and related equipment?
2. I am a non-resident British citizen currently living in Thailand. Can I purchase insurance while living here?
and they replied (on 30th June 2006):
Dear Nicholas,
Thank you for the intresting on Niksecure.
You can insure your underwater photography equipment with us. You cannot insure video cameras though. Yes, you can insure out of Thailand.
Kind Regards
Your NikSecure Insurance Team

I've got everything insured via DEPP. We had a case of theft and they paid.
Awww Nick that's just shitty news. ![]()
:)
I've started taking another cam out with me for topsides as I would never remove my cam from the housing, so I was missing a lot of good topside footage. It's an old JVC, but it works ok - good enough for me at the moment.
If I ever manage to get a decent HD system then I'll have to get a topside cam in HD too. The HC3 is an option and like others have said the HV10 apparently rocks as well. But then like you said who knows what's around the corner in camcorderland?
Cheers, Simon
I drew a blank with DEPP as well in June. Anyone have a current URL or email for them or are they a phone-only operation?
By the way the Wetpixel Insurance thread is Here.
The wretched thing died again today. ![]()
Bummer, hope you get it sorted. I did see that happen way back when with an FX1 in 2005 in Baja. Just died, no explanation, the cam had to get sent back, the guy couldn't get the tape out.
I feel your pain..... I hope it gets sorted for you.
Z1's...what can you do ????
Upgrade honey...whats the Z7's ment to be like...
Hope you get it sorted...

Always happens during the beginning of the season huh?
Time to get the FX1 backup.

I'm sure Sony will have it fixed in time for my Andaman season, which doesn't start this for me year until January. I'm braced for another big bill like last time.
If I'm going to get a backup it had probably better be another Z1. I would really miss the zoom numbers (as opposed to the FX1's graph) which I use constantly and knowing my luck if I had an FX1 backup the Z1 would die when I had a job coming that needs NTSC or 60i or balanced audio. However I think I'll carry on winging it with one camera. Just can't bring myself to pour that much more money down the HDV-on-tape drain. Business isn't profitable enough to have a 2nd pricey cam sitting doing nothing, only for it to be an out of date format a couple of years down the line.
Will seriously consider getting 2 of whatever camera I get next, as long as I feel it has a good lifespan.
It's funny though by the time the bigger and better cam comes along and we get a housing for it, another bigger and better one comes out which you think.... should I wait a little longer and you never end up getting anything.
It all moves pretty fast ![]()
Gotta love technology.
