  1. Holy Grail Cam!!!

    Now you are dreaming mate! There will always be something that is coming out which will be better, if you keep waiting then you never own anything....

    Rental!! Now there's a concept...

    But lets face it we all want to get our grubby hands on 'our' camera and keep playing / looking / touching it.... err.. I feel a bit dirty now :D

    So what have you decided Dean? Ex series?

  2. Holy Grail Cam!!!

    Add the waiting for a decent housing and it's enough to drive you crazy.

  3. RED Will be the last camera I buy to try and get my career to where I want it. If I end up banging my head against a brick wall then I will just look to supply special interest DVD's etc to passion groups of divers and wildlife lovers. I'll probably open a bar somewhere to lament my fall from grace and employ a few reprobates to provide me with a stream of ever intoxicating nectar. Sandy shores, coconut trees in the breeze, dusky maidens and a RED One acting as a door jam!! Who knows.

    Cheers,

    Mark.

    Before anyone asks, I will only be employing cross dressing dwarfs fluent in Swahili who demonstrate the abilities before hitherto thought only mastered by the dubious sounding Ping Pong Patty from Pattaya!! Dean, when do you start?

  4. our buddy Jan speaks Swahili... but i guess he is too tall for you.. :D

  5. I will just look to supply special interest DVD's etc to passion groups, divers and wildlife lovers.

    You moving into porn?

  6. midget p0rn.. that is... :D

  7. what is with you guys and midget porn?

    You know MV isn't that tall... you should see his little legs when he's on his push-bike.

    Bless his little cotton socks.

  8. Bugaly drem maga poo poo Mark...

    Thats two days after you open...to everyone else :D

    My Ex has now been ordered...Weird thing is Ive ordered something costing over £4000 and never held one ....We are a strange bunch...Still i managed to get one that didn't involve a 4-6 week waiting list like most sellers of the EX1...Nice friendly company I bought my A1 off....

    WHAT HAVE I DONE !!!!!

    Ehem.... :D looking forward to it....it looks like manual controls with the lack of Lanc in the housing department but apparently theres a possibility of some kind of remote control off the lens (Drew Step in anytime) so fingers crossed as usual... :D

  9. Good luck mate, I think the EX is going to be a great cam underwater, not RED, but hey look at the price difference. Personally I couldn't justify the price increase of the EX1 over the V1 for my needs, as it would probably have turned out literally double the cost once housed. I guess that's what it's all about really, what you use it for, what you want to use it for and where you want to go. Put it this way - it's going to be a HELL of an upgrade over the A1! :D

    Cheers, Simon

  10. Good on ya Dean,

    Looking forward to seeing your shots with that.

    Everyone can calm down I've found this amazing employment agency that has an over quota on linguistically advanced yet vertically challenged individuals. Whist a few do have dubious qualities and abilities possibly garnered from spending too much time in Pattay they are willing to pass said skills to the more mainstream of their work associates.

    Cheers,

    mark.

  11. Have the housing manufacturers committed to making one for the EX1 or are you going custom ?

  12. Hi all,

    Cheers Simon...this is the reason i stayed out of the Z1 / FX1 race...A) could afford it but was dubious of the new format and size B) couldn't justify the expense for filming pike in 6M of water when the housed A1 was more versitile in confined spaces...So now things have changed..The EX1 is still a mid sized cam but offers so much more..and its available now...The footage i've seen (o.k alot done in post) looks amazing and the Low Light is ment to surpass the Pd170...and i felt it was time for an upgrade...at £4500 its not too bad.. As i've always said i work with what i can afford...

    Cheers Mark... and yours defo me old mate...you stay safe..

    Ron..shocker..I don't know if i'm taking it underwater yet....I have dreams of 35mm adapters and long lens topside shooting.. just bought a shed load of new advanced Camouflage gear (no g-strings sorry) and as soon as i get my baby i'm off shooting topside projects... Sealux are waiting for a unit to see what they can do...Ido really like the look of their housings...I haven't heard a peep from the others....Anyone out there !!!

    But i'm also waiting on Scartlet....Just in case...

  13. I was very very close to change my sony a1 equipment in favor of the canon a1/equipment.

    Then EX1 was out and stopped the decision attracted by top notch performance.

    At the moment I am forcing myself not to order the camera and wait to have someone really testing camera underwater.

    Gates has undergone the development, housing should be ready for release by June.

    My worries/concerns are:

    - vignetting issue of the camera on mid zoom, problem & solution still not completely defined;

    - rolling shutter issue (present on all CMOS);

    - I have seem "banding colors" problems on gradient backgrounds (i.e. skies, not reassuring for blue water...);

    - I am concerned about heating problems; the Ex is substantially a PC with an objective attached and it has a fan to heat processors and components; not sure this can work in a small box (overheat in tropical water ?)

    - dimension & weights: housing will be bigger than a z1 and v1 housing we can be sure of this; this will make airplane trips more complicate;

    - need to upgrade to final cut studio 2 (final cut 5X does not work with ex files); need to buy a macbook pro to download files during dive trips.

    By the way I would love to have the camera in my hands tomorrow.

    Wanted to share all this with you.

  14. Cheers Jonny...

    Lets hope so... :D

    Amphibico are looking at the cam as we speak, but as predicted are going to struggle with the lack of LANC... although i was quoted somewhere between $10,000 - $15,000 for a housing with a big ol wide angle on it...if they can over come that Lanc prob....we will have to wait and see...I think this will also be a prob for any electronic housing company...like Sealux..

    Edit: It's possible though that Sony are preparing something proprietary (and costly) with greater functionality - otherwise, why would they implement an proprietary socket on the Fujinon lense (which requires adaptor), rather than the standard 8-pin Fujinon socket? This is an answer i got to the Lanc question on another forum...its a good maybe ????

    Gates as J pointed out are looking at it as well...they predict 6months for a housing estimated cost without ports.. $7,000.00 .. i wonder how much Deep Red will cost all together...$$$$$$

    So not cheap...But what do you expect for this type of unit...I wasn't that shocked...

    Gives me time to work out how to master the EX1...then EX2 will be out... :D

  15. I thought Amphibico had already said no to it?

    7K for the Gates, I actually reckon that is reasonable, it will be interesting to see what happens regarding ports as Fathom will probably have to design a specific lenses... may take a while.

  16. Well mate, getting a housing for that much less than the camera is a good thing. Don't forget then there is the expense of a decent wide lens adapter or even the standard wide lens to go behind the standard dome port. Diopters, custom handles, exterior monitor blah blah blah......$7k is just the start.

    Whatever you shoot though make sure the lens points away from you. I don't think the World is ready for "Deany Weany's Camo Calender" !! I guess if you every really get hard up OK but please, only as a last resort eh?

    I had Sealux housings for my VX1000, never an issue. Great gear and great service.

    Best of luck mate,

    Mark.

  17. Yeah the $7,000 for the Gates would be the bare min i should think.. But never say never...less cost more units sold...Maybe they should get me on for marketing...Ha,ha...

  18. I don't know if anyone has played with the Red but it's a nightmare to work with in post. I've been troubleshooting some problems and it's just issue after issue after, you know. This was in no way ready to go to the market. Just wanted to let everyone know. Damn, I need a drink and it's not even 11AM yet, and I hardly drink!

    Hi Mark,

    Watching quietly and reading all of the comments on the forums and haven't replied to any messages but just had to say congratulations on your RED and you're right on track in what you're saying. Soon you'll have the best you can get and pretty soon we'll even have Scarlet. I'd imagine there'll be a few here on this forum with Scarlets also.

    All the best,

    Frazier
