Singapore Airlines Cancels Executive Economy Service

  1. The LAX-SIN direct flight is all business class at the end of Sep, no more executive economy. I believe weight savings and profit are the reasons they went this route.

There are flights via TPE from LAX. I haven't flown that route since last year when I had a stopover in TPE. Not a fan of that airport even for transfers.

The direct flight is from EWR-SIN. A buddy of mine became a Virgin convert after he flew from IAD-LHR-SIN. The IAD-LHR was a code share with Virgin and Upper Class plus the Virgin lounge in LHR made him a convert. The LHR-SIN was a SQ plane. If you are carrying a lot of hand luggage, LHR is known to be pretty draconian about cabin luggage nowadays. Even my dad, who loves London, hates LHR now since they made him check his 2nd piece of luggage earlier this year.

Eva airline still has Economy Plus service betw LAX and SIN.

If you want to use your miles to upgrade the SQ tix... be quick! They have limited the seats even more now.

  2. Actually, they took those Airbuses and made them ALL Business Class, daily non-stop flights from both LAX and EWR. And, unbelievably, they are FILLING them every single day! Obviously, their Business Class clients have no objection to paying $8000+ per person for the flights!

The new Singapore Airlines ads are now hitting all the magazines...they will make you drool when you see the seats, but those of us who are not part of the "elite" flying group will not be buying seats on those planes, I'm sure!

  3. I'll be flying coach on Singapore Airlines next Thursday (9/25) from San Francisco to Singapore. I'll try to post about the experience I have.

Thanks Ellen - lets hope they haven't removed th free internet connections from the airport. In two weeks there's going to be a dive show in DC (I live nearby in MD) and some folks from some pacific destinations will be there. I'm going to try to find out if there's anything comparable to the old Singapore Air, and will post what I learn.

    Thanks

  4. I flew out in July from LAX to Singapore on Singapore Air. Their airbus still had the coach plus (like business class, super) but on the ride back one month later they had a cattle car (truly cattle car) 777 loaded to the gills with very uncomfortable seats. Good luck!

Thanks for the sad news. Singapore Air made those long trips bearable. When we were in Sipidan last summer, the deciding factors were; Go while It's still there

  5. Thanks, Ellen and Michael.
