  1. For all those using or thinking of buying thse strobes, there's now a list of other compatible NiMH batteries other than the Sanyo Eneloops.

    Cheers!

Thanks for the info, however, I'm not sure I understood the information within that link.

I have 2 Z-240's, one is the type 2 and one is the type 3. I've only had the type 3 for a few months. Prior to reading this email today, I son't recall hearing anything about the battery restrictions. Infact, I've been using the Maha 2700's this whole time, without incident. However, I did notice that when I got the new tye 3 strobe a few months ago, a 4 pack of the Sanyo eneloops 2000's came inside the box with the strobe.

I noticed the provided link indicates that the following batteries are ok:

    Maha Energy Corporation

     Model name:IMEDION

Model code:MHRAAI4 (4 pcs blister pack)

I'm not that familiar with batteries, but does this information mean that my Maha 2700's are now ok?

    Thanks,

    Adrian

  2. Just bought an Inon d2000 type 3 strobe - vendor literature advises using only Sanyo eneloop batteries but the Sanyo customer service folks advise against using them because of battery offgassing risks. Your thoughts, please.

  3. I'd believe the battery people. Maybe Inon has a financial arrangement with Sanyo??

  4. The Inon / Eneloop issue was already discussed here.

Is there a source that advises against using Eneloops in a sealed compartment? NiMH cells have been used in strobes for a long time.

  5. Hmmnn....

I've been having power problems with Inon z-240 strobes, particularly if the batteries weren't freshly charged. These problems resolved completely with Eneloop-equivalent batteries, so there does seem to be something specific in the Inon strobes that needs the voltage/time/current characteristics of Eneloop-type cells.

  6. Powered by Maplin 2400 mhr NIMH AA's my type II Z-240's have performed flawlessly. As I'm about to pass on these strobes to my son and replace them with a pair of type III the need to use Eneloops (as I have a huge stock of NIMHs...) is something I want to resolve too. Great to hear any feedback about this.

  7. Have a look in the old link issued by Craig, there is a lot of info there.

I have even switched to Eneloops for the Z240 typeII. My reason for doing so was mainly that I broke one of the Strobes by using 2700mAh batteries. I had not been reading the manual carefully enough. After that I got cautious and switched over to the Sanyos. They are also quite handy in the way that you charge them once and they keep the charge. I have not noticed a substanial difference on the amount of Flash Outputs that I get with them.

For me the price of new Batteries are low in comparison to a new Strobe.

I have not had any offgassing problems and I have been using them now for around 150 dives or so. Anyway, I would assume that INON had done enough tests on them to find out if such a problem exists and might cause problems.

Just wondering if you care to adopt? My dad passed long ago so I could use a dad to pass Z-240's my way. Never mind that I already have grandkids.

  9. Sorry to disappoint you Dave. CJ has already staked his claim on the INONs and my G9 and Ike will only remain sacred while his 11 year old hands are too small to grip the tray handles and thumb the shutter...

Reverting to the subject of Eneloops...

I recently spoke to an INON distributer about this. Since receiving their first demo Type III, they have used a bugger's muddle of batteries; NiCd's, MiMh's, Alkaline's without any adverse effects. That's good enough for me. I'll stick with my 2500 mhr NiMh's...

    Hi

I've been using Eneloop's for the last year and charging them with a 'Seven Day Shop' NiMH Fast charger with no problems at all.
