Singapore airlines excess baggage

  1. My 22" legal sized wheeled carry-on, holding my video housing and lights was weighed and put in the carry-on sizing cage. It failed both and I had to check it. .

I'm flying Singapore Airlines in September on my way to Bali. I know my Subal housing + ports that I take in my wheeled carry-on will be over the weight limit. :D

Thank goodness I just bought a balanz scale for weighing my luggage at home before I head out to the airport.

  2. Hi,

I just have flown with Silk Air a roundtrip Singapore-Manado 2 weeks ago. Not Singapore Airlines but a group´s company, thought.

Carry on: 2 pieces (Think Tank Photo Airport Int´l and Urban Disguise 50) that weighted 40 Kg. Not weighted in any flight :D

Checked: I had one bag of 24 kg and one diving equipment bag of 10Kg. I stated it was scuba diving equipment and no problem with it, they seemed to be well aware of the 10kg extra for diving including an extra piece (I was flying economy, with a 20kg allowance).

Gotta admit the person told me I had a 4 kg. excess but that it was OK for that time.

    Can´t complain! ;)

  3. I think we should first separate Singapore the airport vs Singapore Airlines.

Singapore Airport is serviced by staff from CAAS, which means the airport makes money from overweight baggage as well. So always talk to the airline rep.

As for Singapore Airlines weighing bags, I've flown it many times the last 6 mths and never been weighed once. However, I carry my housing without a bag(bare with a padded, so they know I won't be checking it in. This worked for all airlines and airport except Heathrow and various australian airports. However, after complaining and waving my FF status around, they allowed it.

I will say that as of today, SIA has limited US bound or origin flights to 50lbs/23kg per piece of luggage. Which means for video housing and lights in one bag, it's party over baby. Forget pelican or storm cases as they weigh about 1/3 of the allowance. It'll be interesting to see how strictly they enforce this.
