50 GIG blu-Ray...so how long will it takes to burn that at 4x speed.
Kelly hands me the tape from Whale Sharking yesterday.
I suck it in, 15 mins, add graphics at start and end, drop the music on, no edits are needed cause I taught her well..... and 20 mins later I had the 7 DVD's made.
Throw the now full $5 tape into the cupboard ....archiving done.
I don't know how long it takes. I'll let you know when I cut my first Blu-Ray. But what I CAN tell you is how it looks. And it's nothing like tape based DV.
I suppose in your industry, there is a need to produce DVDs quickly to hand off to clients. I guess since I started in film photography (before SLR) I think more along the lines of film. Shoot, develop, print. In my work, I am willing to sacrifice the expedient nature of shooting and archiving on a single tape, for the higher quality of rolling tapeless. I can roll longer, I can ingest faster, and I get no dropouts, dirty heads, or other tape maladies.
What was your industry like when everyone had 8mm or 16mm film?
Also, I am curious. How often do you retension your archived tapes? I'm sure you'd want to prevent print-through issues, especially since DV Tape stock is a LOT thinner than 16 or 35mm film, but I am just curious how often you do this.
