  1. A couple of pics from last week's trip to Isla de Guadelupe. The sharks were great but the little Guadelupe fur seals were way cuter.

  2. The first shot is really great. Did you shoot the second shot from a submerged cage?

    Mike

  3. Thanks.

Yes, the second shot is from the deep cage, more of an open platform really, looking up toward the stern of the Solmar V and the surface cages.

  4. Great portrait Jeff!

    Cheers

  5. I would love to get shots like those one day. Awesome beasties!

  6. The first image is a winner. So which lens did you find you used more the 10-17 or the 17-55?

I used the 17-35 the most; I did use the 10-17 one day and I was not happy with the perspective it gave me for these guys. Here are a couple of examples, makes them look kind of puny and more cartoon like, I think.

  8. Superb!! love all of them.

the sunlight on shark's body is so beautiful. thank for sharing Jeff! :)

  9. Hey buddy that first one is excellent ! Seems that you have it very close to the cage ( that's was not always the case at Guadalupe )

Any indication about the gws hunting for the fur seals ?

You saw really big ones this year or sub-adults or a mix ?

Yeah, they came in as close as one could hope for. They were all males probably average 10-12 feet. Females were not there yet. We did not see any fur seal hunting, but I'm sure it's not long before it starts.

Here's a shot to show how close.

  11. I was there the week before and there is some evidence especially later in the year that elephant seals get hit by some of the larger sharks....

All in all, Isla Guadalupe is a magical place!

  13. Now that's a great photo!!!

Who needs the whitey images when you can photo elephant seals snoozing...

(but the whitey images are pretty spectacular as well)

  14. Great shots, thanks for sharing!

  15. Great shots of an amazing predator. Gee those little seals kind of looked nervous :) wonder why?

    Cheers,

    Jim.

  16. A few more including what lives on Isla Guadalupe. Somewhere around 5,000 California Sea Lions, Guadalupe Fur Seals and of course Elephant Seals.

    Enjoy!

I do actually; the D200's great.

  19. Great pics I also really like the dappled sunlight effect.

Were they chumming to get the sharks so close?

    Thanks for sharing them
