WA and D 700 : best choices

  1. Hi,

I'd like to come back to work nikoncamera D 700..but i hesitate with 15 FE sigma or Tokina 10/17 Fe to keed 14 cm MAP..

The 16 nikon FE is too far ( 0,25 cm) to work with it...

What is your experience on FF ?

    Thanks..

    Laurent

  2. I have the 16mm, even though it is not a 10.5mm in terms of focusing at f/8 you got pretty good DoF almost to the dome.

There have been quite a few discussions on this forum on WA options with the D700.

Many people like the Sigma for it's close focus ability, and it would probably be my choice over the Nikon.

Some have also been disappointed with the 16mm on the D700

On the other hand, I presently am using the Tokina 10-17 with 1.4TC, and so far I'm quite pleased with the resilts.

    See you

  5. I have used the D700 with both the 16mm and 15mm. I find that the 16mm is better at resisting flare than the 15mm, but I feel (hard to measure) that the 15mm is marginally sharper and it certainly focuses considerably closer. But the difference between them is small.

I am perfectly happily with both. I took this with the 15mm last week:

You can see a gallery of images I have taken with the D700, here. The file names indicate the lens (fisheye shots towards the end of the gallery).

I have not tried the 10-17mm + teleconverter on FX, yet. But I am staying at Chez Loftus this week - so maybe we can do some side by side tests. My gut feeling is that the teleconverter would further expose the naughtiness in the 10-17mm's optics. But Jeff's shots don't seem to show this - suggesting that this could be the best all round fisheye option on FX. Which would be good news.
