  1. Hi folks.

Got my hands on some information about Amphibcio's new housing for the EX3.

No need for an external LCD monitor to bolt on and mess about with, the EX3 comes with an outstanding LCD already. :)

The new XDAmphibicamX3 will be at www.blueoceanfilmfestival.org , Savannah Georgia,

Stock will become available starting mid June.!!

Housing set up to work with native lens presently supplied with the EX3,

(Other front port will be considered later , base on concerted demands)

Uses the HD Lcd screen of the camera—nothings to be remove from the camera for installation.,

Housing is full electronics controls with Manual focus of the lens.

Specs: Full electronics controls as HdAmphibicam housings with Leak alarm system standard!.

Clam shell design, Four Bulkhead connectors, Two controls grips and menu Panel controls.

  2. Looks pretty sexy, but I still find it strange that the produce a housing for the EX3 with the standard lens when underwater it offers no advantages over the EX1. I maybe just to fill a different niche....but I still reckon there are a load more EX1's in the market.

  3. Well if they have extension rings for the ports or adapters to use other ports, it could get interesting with other lenses like the Alpha Zeiss.

It's a small niche market for those who already have the camera. Topside, the EX3 is nicer than the EX1 to me.

  4. Yeh I do like the LCD window plus with the grab handle will make is easy for one handed shooting and getting interesting angle/shots.

I see, so if they made an bayonet adapter that pushed the port out further to allow other internal lenses.

Presently, it set up to work with the standard supplied lens that come with the camera.

Have to find out if it comes with flip arms for a URPRO filter etc.

    Here are the controls.

Mechanical you get Focus, ND selection and on/off.

    Rest is electronic.

  5. Housing looks very sexy indeed. I agree, the real benefit of using the EX3 underwater will come with the support of other lenses for underwater use.

  6. But not for you hey Wags Meister that solid sate rubbish is a format you will defo not be crossing over too... :)

Its going to be a massive and heavy beastie but a goody as well im sure... If you have the funds for the better lenses it would be a great option... But i think Scarlet will probably stop this one in its tracks

Speaking to a few EX3/EX1 owners over the past few months theres not much in it... Apart from the long lens ability... Personally i dont know but thats what i hear...

Will be interesting... I reckon it needed a bit of updating! Looking forward to seeing it completed, using the cams LCD is a great idea obviously cost effective but Sony do make a good screen.... in fact I was using an EX1 the other day and reckon the LCD image looks better than the reality when you get back to the studio.

  10. Its going to be interesting to see how much interest there is. The production companies Ive spoken with that use the EX1/Ex3 are perfectly fine using the EX1 for underwater use as the difference is so minimal and size is always a concern for underwater use. I like the fact of using the Sony's lcd as well,...if only the LCD was a few inches larger though!! Excited to get to see the new housing.

  11. I was just at Amphibico one week ago an got a peek of the XDAmphibicam. Like some of you said, they figured out away to make use of the good LCD viewfinder already on the camera. The possibility of using different lenses with the housing in the future is also pretty exciting. The coolest thing about the housing is what it shares with the HDAmphibicam. The handles and thumb wheels are the same ones used on its bigger brother. On the HDApmhibicam these wheels give you fine control over functions of the camera like iris and zoom, very professional. I can't wait until I get the chance to get one in the water and put it through the paces. For those of you who are not at the Blue Ocean Film Festival here are a few pics of the housing.

  13. Any info on the weight of this thing? I'm still deciding between a EX3 and the Canon 5D2...

  14. I wonder if they'll put a boot on the VF window. I can see reflections off the window.

  15. We will see soon -- just a couple of weeks...

I think deciding between the EX3 and the 5D depends on the work and the target audience you want to reach... If this is an HD broadcaster, go for the EX3, if it is not for broadcasting, go for the 5D... Or I would do that, at least... Or wait for the Scarlet...

  16. Looks very nice!!! With regards to the choice between a 5dMKII and an EX3, thats huge difference, so the application would be the decision factor.

Gotta disagree there Mike i think it looks ugly... Bit of a monstrosity... It will be very heavy as well... I think the Gates EX1 housing looks much sleeker...

We will have to wait for a certain 'Oz shooter' to do a complete turn around and get one and say its the best thing since 'sliced bread'... :)

Very true. Decided on the Canon after spending several days shooting topside with both.

I've finally got a PC editing workflow sorted for the retarded Quicktime mov wrapper that works well with Edius. I personally like the final Bluray output from the Canon better (The EX1 / EX3's MPEG-2 Long GoP codec vs the 5D2's H.264 codec?)...and the lens choice is great.

Either way, its a transitional decision. I'm really waiting for Canon's rumoured Pro APS-C sized (12 mega pixel ?) HD camera; EOS mount (new lenses with special AF motors) ...all in a supposedly "compact" video cam style package...

Then the 5D2 becomes a great still camera again!

  19. I agree with Deano... looks waaaay to big and ugly....

  20. It definitely looks quite large. As I said in earlier posts, I really dont think there is much of a need for the EX3 underwater...the EX1 does everything we need plus some. And a lot of EX3 owners also own EX1s from what ive seen (especially production companies). I love my Gates EX1, Ive got two of them out here for this shoot, always a pleasure to use.
