  1. Interesting article over on digideep about a possible roadmap for Nikon releases. I love those things (the speculation :B): ). I would bet some of the things wind up being close to true, it is the way things are heading....

    Nikon Rumors?

    When's the 30MP D900x coming? That's what I want ... :B):

If I was going to guess, probably the day after you buy the Nikon D700x/24.5 MP and housing :D

  4. Wonder if the D700X will fit in a D700 housing.

  5. Wonder if the D700X will fit in a D700 housing.

I can't see what would change that would make a new housing necessary ... the D3x and the D3 fit in the same housings ... but you never know, right?

  6. Look for August 6 anouncement for the d700x

C'mon, what do you know? May have to have one for Dominica.

I think you may be turning into a junkie. But I think most of use are anyway when it comes to these things :B):

  9. I gotta wonder if Nikon does this on purpose to keep you Nikonians excited between model cycles. :D

You don't hear Canon and Sony leaking anything. I must have the latest and greatest because the marketing dept has brainwashed me! :B):

I will give concession to megapixel resolution. I was shooting a few months back FF against a D700. My 16mp pic showed spots on the subject the 12mp D700 just showed pixellation and no detail. We had similar lenses, 105VR vs 100m but I had a 20mm extension tube on mine. The FOV of the shot was similar. I just had more pixels to squeeze out details.

No doubt. It appears to be part of their marketing strategy.

I wouldn't be surprised if they use some measure of the "heat" the leaks generate to gauge initial demand and to calibrate their production runs.

I'd agree with that, from my experiences. Shooting alongside the 20+MP cameras you can certainly see a resolution difference to the 12MP cameras. Although I am sure someone will point out that you might struggle to see a difference on the printed page.

Thom Hogan thinks this roadmap is some guys wish list and not authentic, as most of these rumors turn out to be.

But I do think I will be very pleased with a 2 camera 700 / 700x travel kit combination, just like those who like the DMKIII / DSMKIII combination when they travel . The D700 is a faster camera than the higher MP cameras, and still the high ISO king. For some of my pool work with models I often find even the D700 is too sharp, showing too much skin detail in particular, which I have to tone down.

  13. Hehehe that's the funny thing about human beings... we want detail on every subject except women's skin.

    Movie quote:

"I'd like to make her look a little more attractive, how far can you pull back?"

"How do you feel about Cleveland?"

How do you do it? I've taken to using negative clarity with the brush tool.

  15. Wonder if the D700X will fit in a D700 housing.

The limited production run of the S&S D700 housing seems inconsistent with continuation of an identical body. Did S&S know something in advance? :B):

For quick and simple, but less refined I use a duplicate layer, run a gaussian blur and then mask out the parts I want to keep sharp. For more tedious work for large prints I use one of the multilayered techniques in Katrin Eisman's Photoshop Restoration and Retouching. There are a few of them, and I am still experimenting with them.

What would the D700x offer? Does that suggest DX lenses? As opposed to D700s which would be another FF body.

I am still having trouble (how unique am I?), in deciding on a housing for a D300 or a D700. Would the above travel kit off best of both worlds?

    Thanks

It is an interesting point, especially as Sea & Sea launched their D3 housing as a D3 and D3X housing several months before the D3X was announced. That said S&S also have a history of discontinuing housings before demand stops. The discontinued the D70 housing very early and in fact one of the UK dealers ordered 50 units to make them do another run.

If the D700x is a D700 with the D3x sensor, as most expect, then it will be expensive. Considerably more than a D3. Perhaps to justify this large price increase, Nikon will change the body. They may also change the body to better accommodate video ergonomics.

As a D700 owner I would be thrilled if the D700X fits in the D700 housing, but I think that it is far from a given.

I'm not sure if this rationale makes any sense; if I were a company like Nikon I would see little choice but to make this camera as direct competition to the Canon 5DMKII. More expensive yes, but still within the ballpark.
